I am trying to find this study online. I think progress treating any neurodegenerative disease is big news for all of us!

For families who have been devastated by a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, hope can be hard to come by. Yet a study conducted in 2009 showed the effects of the disease being reversed through the use of neural stem cells. As the study’s lead author, Dr. Michel F. Levesque, said at the time, “We have documented the first successful adult neural stem cell transplantation to reverse the effects of Parkinson’s disease and demonstrated the long-term safety and therapeutic effects of this approach.”
In the five years following the procedure, the patient’s motor skills improved by more than 80 percent. While a larger clinical trial is needed, this successful use of adult stem cells bodes well for patients living with the effects of Parkinson’s. Levesque hopes that the trial will result in “cost-effective and lasting therapies for the millions of patients suffering from debilitating neurodegenerative disorders.” Now, that’s hope we can believe in.
