This is old news from NewScientist.com from a few years ago but I thought it might be good to post it. It also has some extra articles.

How long do we have to wait?
We put a man in space in a few years after starting. (early 60's)
Man walks on the Moon before the end of the 60's.
We make a space craft that can go into space and return to be reused. (80's)
We find a cure for Polio years ago. (I beleive 40's)
We have vaccines for most everything.
But we can't nip MS.
We can't even get a decent treatment going without all those damn side affects.
MS research

I was diagnosed at the end of May 2004 - the most shocking / depressing aspect of all this is that, after 50 years, no one appears to have a clue what causes MS. Given the way communications / computers / transport have progressed in 20 years why has no progress been made in this area? There must be hundreds of researchers around the world, but at the end of each year what is the outcome of their work???? The English MS Society is holding a conference called 2015 The beginning of the end of MS? I want the end of MS to be much sooner. Don't you?
On treatment - Why do the drugs companies always come up with lifetime treatments e.g injections? Why are they always $10,000 a year? Why are they never 100% effective? Given the IT now available and the huge amounts of data we should be able to answer the following questions:What causes MS? What treament will stop (100%) any further demylination (for everyone), how can existing damage be reversed. The drugs identified should be fast tracked - I want my old life back!!!

I COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER!
I have some theories that may be partial answers to your questions but don't have the time to include them now. Will make a point of getting back to it though!!

Bromley, I was in Genoa's university last week to partecipate a Stem Cell convention (Genoa is the centre of MS' research in Italy) Dr. Marmont said "in few years we will be able to stop the MS' progress... dunno about a definitive answer... " I was diagnisized in 1997, when I was 33... to be honest I would like my life back too, but i guess it's not just around the corner... in any case let's be optimistic
