Chinese stem cells; videos

I had been wishing there were some documentation of people who'd done the overseas stem cell treatments. FWIW, this site has a few MSers whose experience is documented in video.

http://www.stemcellschina.com/index.php ... -ms.-glenn

I notice that the main treatment appears to be cord blood and nerve growth factors. It seems the bulk of other research on stem cells for brain issues has shown that mesenchymal stem cells are needed, not just run of the mill everyday cord blood stem cells.

I also notice that an integral part of the treatment is aggressive physical therapy and I'd question how much of the treament effect is actually due to that and not at all related to the stem cells.

I hate to pee in the cornflakes but I am not all that impressed with her improvements. I showed more improvement after HiCy in one month than she did.

I am willing to bet aggressive PT had more to do with her recovery than anything.

I am a firm believer without the underlying MS dead and gone a mop bucket of stem cells won't help.

Me either, but these people are all over the net with their story of healing.
I also think it is the PT. Those cornflakes were bad to begin with

I believe stem cells will show promise as a treatment for MS in that there is good research showing people who've had a stroke who get mesenchymal stem cells do better even if the stroke was years ago. Some healing can apparently happen that way.

BUT

Mesenchymal stem cells are a very specific rare kind of cell, it is that type specifically that can turn into nerve tissue IF that is possible, to the degree that it's possible. Research in that area is early but promising. Among other things, a big bolus of MSC's makes the immune system calm down and reduces inflammation, so Chris, it may well work just as well as Hicy. MAY. Maybe not, no one knows right now. More research is needed, and MSC's are not commonly available of the shelf yet. IT takes a lot of growing them in the lab and filtering out the MSC's to get what is needed from marrow taken from you because MSC's are 1 in 100,000.

The notion that you can take ordinary cord blood from God knows how many people with God knows how many potential diseases (hepatits? aids? If not carefully screened, you bet) and people will magically recover from MS when given it is complete nonsense perpetuated on us by people who stand to gain something----a whole lot of our money.

And by well meaning people wishin' and hopin' who've done it with a strong belief in what they are doing. Some set up other web forums for people who've gone to CHina for MS to get stem cells; they are invariably positive about their experience. like this one

Like the woman in the video, they claim "some benefits" and frequently assert that they will go a second time. I don't know where they get their money, but frankly based on the current legitimate research it is completely unlikley that they are getting ANY nerve regeneration at all, and IF their immune system is calming down a little from the cord stem cells, they'll need to do the treatment on a regular basis. 20,000 out of pocket for a repeat therapy of questionable value is absurd.

You'd be better off to save it for future medical needs.

I also know for sure that Mikey Riley, a young man who got stem cells in China and who was the subject of evening new stories (click for link)
etc got something like 7 new lesions by 9 months out from his treatment. He went on tysabri and it doing better that way, but that story is not on the net is it? I found his email and wrote him, I was thankful for his honest reply.

At any rate, I am interested in these stem cell treatments-as offered by legitimate medical clinics offering therapy supported by peer reviewed literature-- but cord blood in particular is not likely to be a good therapy for nervous system disease.
all I've ever seen is really equivocal results such asthe ones we saw in that video....................[/url]

I feel bad for the guy
I Know PK, he's so young!

I see that the website you found is all positive on the China experience; that's what I'm talking about. The net gives things a long life.........

I did ask him, after he emailed me his story saying he ended up on tysabri, to post his story on TIMS in the stem cell thread so we could hear that it did not work. That he did not od that makes me wonder why........... :?
