Hello everyone!

I have a big favor to ask- I'm a massage therapist student in a small town in North Carolina. I have to do a project on the effects of massage on MS, and I was wondering if I could ask y'all some questions about it if you've recieved massages post-diagnosis. I do not have ms and i don't intend to annoy or insult anyone, and I apologize if I ever do that!

Thanks!

Hi inkfish,

I have definite MS and I've been getting regular therapeutic massages for the last 2 or 3 years. It's great! My therapist has been a professional for years and adapts her procedures according to my day's complaints and also what she feels in my body (& mood) during the massage. My muscles & nerves talk to her. I hesitate to give her too much guidance beforehand, because she's so good at zeroing in on the right spots (both mental & physical), even if I didn't realize them beforehand.

She has several MS clients, but thinks my body shows more similarites with her Fibromyalgia clients, likely because of my multiple medical conditions. And her years of training and experience have made her so knowledgeable about anatomy that she's been able to identify the muscles/nerves in my areas of complaint and make a few exercise suggestions.

I always walk better when I leave, so I often just leave my cane in the car. Good luck with your studies and feel free to ask away!

When I first read of Dr Zamboni's CCSVI theory of a blood reflux into the brain, I asked my husband to massage my upper back and neck, thinking of pushing the blood down towards the heart and I can stop an attack. Whenever I'm stressed I can feel all the "fluids" freeze up and ask for the massage to move the blood down from my brain and for me it works. Question of blood, fluid circulation.

I had massage therapy with an accupunturist before i know i had MS but i had already develop the symptoms, i found massage is good for my blood circulation n i had a slight, not a significant improvement though with my symptoms (maybe because i only had 4 sessions in 1 months, n that's all).

But i have my husband massaging my feet n legs every night, i feel comfort sensation when he does that. I believe massage n accupunture is good to stimulate my nerves n improving my blood circulation, though i haven't see its significant effect to my symptoms yet.

Thank u.
