Has anyone looked into aspirin therapy especially given the recent developments with CCSVI?

` I personally have been taking one asprin a day for three months, I figured, what could it hurt? While I haven't seen a drastic "wham bam"
from it, I can say overall I have had a general, prolonged increase in energy throughout the day, as compared to before. :D
Is it the asprin? I dunno....
also, the brain fog has been cut by 80%!!!!!!!!!!!

Good question. I don't know about aspirin's influence on CCSVI, but it has been successfully tested to see if it helps MS patients with fatigue.

A randomized controlled crossover trial of aspirin for fatigue in multiple sclerosis.

Comment in: Neurology. 2005 Apr 12;64(7):1111-2.

Pharmacotherapeutic options for multiple sclerosis (MS)-related fatigue are limited. Thirty patients were randomly assigned to aspirin (ASA) 1,300 mg/day or placebo in a double-blind crossover study. Results favored ASA for the main clinical outcomes: Modified Fatigue Impact Scale scores (p = 0.043) and treatment preference (p = 0.012). There were no significant adverse effects. The results warrant further study and support a role for ASA-influenced mechanisms, perhaps immunologic, in the generation of MS-related chronic fatigue.

Thanks guys . I appreciate it. Bubba...if you don't mind me asking....how much aspirin are you taking and are you doing anything else? I just started using this site last week to get some information on CCSVI and found a ton of stuff. I am on Rebif right now but have considered making some changes

The asprin I take is the cheap bottle from the local grocery store. They are 325mg tablets. I take between 1 and 2 a day. It just varies, no rhyme or reason, just some days I take an extra one. I inject my Rebif (3x) weekly. I try to remember to take my Senna*Plus tablets daily (For gentle relief of constipation 8O ) I take a Vit B complex daily, and DHA strawberry (dissolving) fish oils. It is my opinion that the DHA and the asprin have been my energy increasing factors. On a very irregular basis, I take magnesium, zinc, potassium, vit D w/calcium ect.. But that has slowed to maybe once a week. The reason, I am very busy constantly, and very lazy when I am not busy. I also try to maintain a gluten free eating environment, as much as possible. I drink lots of beer, so I figure thats all the gluten my body needs, I dont want to add gluten from foods on top of the beer. :D

Budda,

Thanks again. I really appreciate the info and totally agree on the beer issue. I have switched to Heineken to reduce the gluten. Apparently it contains more rice.

Just FYI there are at least two gluten free beers on the market - Redbridge (made by Bud), and Bards. They are both quite good, but a little pricey.

Based on what I read here, I bumped up my asprin intake. I was taking 325mg once a day. Now take 975mg a day. I dont want to jinx myself, but I still believe that is what is helping me. I am taking all three at once in the morning, my doctor suggested 1 asprin 3x a day???? that makes sense to.

New aspirin study is underway at Mayo and don't forget

Mayo clinic is currently conducting a full fledged trial on the effectiveness of aspirin in treating MS fatigue. The head MS researcher at Mayo is heading the study. This is fantanstic!!!!

It is interesting that aspirin helps prevent clotting and facilitates blood flow--a helpful thing especially if the CCSVI theory turns out to be true.

I'm guessing no more than one aspirin a day would be sufficient because that is all that is recommend to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Another reminder--please remember Dr. Terry Wahls says cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, etc.) helps think the blood too. She suggests eating these everyday might be helpful.
