Just to let you know

Hi!

It is so very important that anyone prescribed antibiotics, takes the supplement acidophilus( pro biotic), to replace the good bacteria in the stomach, pro biotic drinks are not good enough, if not the bad bacteria can cause you problems

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In one study, published by the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers examined 788 patient previously diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Lyme disease is usually contracted by getting a tick bite. Out of all the patients examined, only 23 percent actually had active cases of the disease. Another 20 percent had previous cases of the disease but at the time we experiencing other conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or Fibromyalgia. That leaves 57 percent of patients who did not have Lyme Disease at all.

So what, pray tell, was the problem? Candidiasis: the chameleon disease. Candidiasis is the systematic overgrowth of the ever-present yeast, Candida Albicans, through out the body. This disease causes a huge list of symptoms, some of which mimic Lyme Disease nearly to the tee. Some of the these symptoms include fatigue, headache, depression, joint pains, fibromyalgia, abdominal pains, insomnia, rashes, flu-like symptoms, swollen glands, and difficulty concentrating. Just like those actually with Lyme Disease.

Candida is present in or on everyones body, but it is usually confined to the large intestine. However, when an over growth takes place everything is thrown out of whack. How does this happen? The typical suspects are usually steroid drugs, birth control pills, and hormone therapy. These substances alter the natural state of your intestinal flora, allowing the yeasts to proliferate. But probably the worst offender of this is the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics are indiscriminate. They kill both the 'good' and the bad bacteria. As strange as it may sound, our bodies need good bacteria to function properly. Without the good bacteria, Candida Albicans can establish colonies outside of the intestines. Each cell has what's called germination tubes that hold yeast spores, which burst out of the tubes and spread throughout your body when they reach maturity. These yeast spore feed on sugar and carbohydrates. It is believed that the long term effects of Antibiotic use can last months if not years down the road.

Thankyou for your concern, but I am sure that everyone taking long term antibiotics is aware of the need for probiotics. If they aren't, they will know soon enough!

No they dont, and its important that they do know then they can make their own informed choice.

please foregive my ignorance but how does Stratton/Wheldon compare with the Marshall protocol?

Well, there are several places you can look, the most informative being this one: http://www.davidwheldon.co.uk/ms-treatment.html

To answer your question briefly, though, both the protocols believe in prescribing clinical doses of antibiotics and also large doses of vitamin D.

The best site for patients is cpn(dash)help(dot)org, a site totally democratic with no moderation.

Also, unlike the Marshall protocol, there are people ho tend to get better.

thank you.

the large dose vitamin D confuses me a bit.
I thought that Marshall believes the Vitamin D rnuclear receptor is the culprit.
where supplementation of vitamin D will work counterproductive, see e.g. see page 3 of
http://autoimmunityresearch.org/karolinska-handout.pdf

you also seem to suggest that people get better from the Wheldon protocol and not from Marshall.
is that true? is there evidence? so where is the difference?

Leo, I have been taking a minimum of 4000iu of vitamin D for at least eight years. Trevor Marshall and his acolytes seem to be the only people who now think this is wrong. I have not had an MS episode in that time, although I finished the antibiotic regime, in June 2007, as my signature states. Why I said that Marshall believes in prescribing both clinical doses of antibiotics and large amounts of vitamin D, I don't know. Too much talking about him over the years, I guess! He can't prescribe, not being a medical doctor but he does advice what are effectively sub-clinical doses of various antibiotics and also avoiding vitamin D.

Maybe some people with aggressive progressive MS do get better on the Marshall protocol, but Marshall runs such a tight ship it is hard to know: people get evicted from his site if they complain too much, whereas people on CPn Help can basically say what they like.
