5 HTP, Electormagnetic field therapy and chlamydia pneumonia

Antibiotics would appear to have stabilized my condition and some of my symptoms have improved such as pain and spasms. However there is still clearly a lot of damage in the CNS, which is affecting my walking just as much as at the beginning of the protocol. I am now trying to get more repair going since I don't think just clearing the nasty bugs out is going to help there.
To which end I will be trying to get electro magnetic field (EMF) therapy which has lots of positive data in the PubMed website. In fact there are so many positive reports on EMF either weak or A/C that I will only post one link. <shortened url>
In the explanations for the efficacity of EMF I came across a piece which explained that permanent neurological deficits aren't attributed to axonal loss but to serotonergic depletion between the synapses. <shortened url>
This might be rectified by increasing levels of 5 -HT <shortened url> but then again I have a nagging doubt about using 5 - HT or tryptophan as I think chlamydia pneumonia will also be boosted by this. Can anyone remember a discussion about tryptophan/5-ht in making the bugs more active?

As far as tryptophan and 5HTP goes, read the two posts here, both by Marie, but basically, tryptophan is not advisable with a CPn infection:

Got them right this time!

EMF Treatment

Gibbledygook, Please keep us posted inre to if and when you have the EMF therapy. My husband started Dr. Wheldon's combined antibiotic protocol only recently, and he's improving already. In fact, he's feeling so much better, the right leg weakness and foot dragging are becoming more exasperating to him. They just can't keep up with the rest of him since he now has more energy that is lasting longer. As you pointed out, this is the result of damage to the CNS---a separate issue from antibiotic treatment of infection. I've spent so much time searching for the best treatments and finding a doctor to do them, I haven't even scratched the surface of the body of CNS recovery research. Thanks for the jolt...there's so much more investigating to be done...no time to rest on laurels.

I'm glad your husband is on the abx protocol and I shall definitely keep you posted on CNS recovery strategies. I fear the EMF may not be all it's cracked up to be as I noticed that all of the pubmed entries seem to be by the same chap which is not encouraging.

I am also exploring neurotrophic factors which show good axonal regrowth in the transected spines of rats. <shortened url>
Apparently certain antidepressants may upregulate some of these important neurotrophic factors such as brain derived neurotrophic factor, http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=16753801. However I'm going to talk to my doctor about all of this. As I'm feeling a bit low the idea taking desipramine might not be such a bad idea.

There must be something which helps regrow our damaged spines!

Thanks for the post and the inspiration. I'm not done yet either and will be watching eagerly. I'm walking better, but not running.

Colin :)

It is good that you are feeling better, but it is always highly recommended to first consult your doctor or physician before taking 5-htp or any other medicine.
