Poor you. Nerves are exquisitely sensitive and if their protective coating is inflamed then there will be pain. Only you of course know how much pain you can stand, we cannot compare your pain to ours.
In the beginning when Ella was very sick, she had to stop taking the doxycycline for a week because she could not breathe. She started taking it again a week later, and she gradually recovered, but we waited another two weeks before adding the azithromycin into the equation.
The sudden attack on Cpn caused a crisis in her condition, not the same as yours because pain was not severe but a crisis nevertheless.
During the time of crisis she was given a short course of high dose predisnolone which helped reduce the inflammation in the short term, this had to be repeated a further two times in the period at the start of the treatment.
Any chance you might get that from your Doctor. You can get them in tablet form so you would not have to go to hospital. They taste awful, you have to take them with orange juice to counteract their alkalinity, but they help you get through the tough times.

Shell, if it is lyme, it responds to the same treatment as for Cpn. I know lots of lyme doctors like to attack it vigourously with IV antibiotics, but with chronic lyme as with Cpn, it is better to take it gradually.

Was the prednisolone you think started this pain given intravenously? If so, its the wacking the problem all in one go which might have caused this agony, so maybe a lower dose of oral steroids in conjunction with the doxy would help.
