Hello group :)

I started taking doxycyclin today (as a personal trial) and I would like to know if there is any 'better' way of digesting it...
I took it a bit after lunch and found almost everything thrown down the toilets... It made me pretty sick, but I acknowledge it might be normal to 'get use' of it :?

Any suggestion welcome and thank you :)

Algis, you must take doxycycline with a glass of water, or even better for people with sensitive stomachs, glass of milk. I used to take it first thing in the morning with a small glass of milk, after discovering that if I didn't take the milk, or at least water and biscuit or something, I would be as anything, even after not having eaten for twelve hours. You must do this to stop it damaging the lining of your oesophagus and stomach because it is very acidic. Stay upright as well! Then don't take either a calcium/magnesium supplement or any probiotics for at least two hours.

I only threw up once: I learned my lesson!

Well; day 2; thrown up everything again 8O - I'll try to cut to half (50mg) but have to rest my stomach for few days...

Hi Algis,

My stomach has also had problems with the doxy. At first I was taking it with no food, which made me extremely nauseous.

Now I take it with a meal and plenty of water. I took prilosec OTC in the mornings for a while to help me tolerate it. That helped quite a bit. Now I can take it without the prilosec.

There are a couple name brand versions of Doxy that are time release and coated to be easier on the stomach. I believe they were developed for acne, I don't know if there is any reason they would be less effective. I have considered trying them.

Good luck.

I vomited quite bit as well, I also had probs with my liver processing them so watch out for that (My liver has all gone back to normal now)

I am planning on doing the abx again but probably intermittantly maybe 10 days on and 20 days off with probiotics. I have done that with Ciproxin in the past and I really felt the benefits plus I didnt get sick from it.

I will do the Doxy, Roxy and maybe the last 2 days add the Flagyl then take 20 days off. Hopefully I won't cause resistance as I will still be combining.

Good Luck. Doxy always made me very sick even with food, so they swithched me to Minocycline and it is still tough but better.

I always take it on a full stomach lots of water and make sure to sit up for a half hour.
