I was thinking about this as i urinate every 2 hours which is a pain, i press my bladder when going but can never fully empty my bladder,

so i read self0catheterizing is an effective way of fully empting the bladder, so if i done this i would go less often

but i saw this video demo of a dummy on self-catheterization:
http://www.medicalvideos.us/videos/958/

and it freaked me out how men do it, it looks so painful

so was wondering if any men here self-catheterize?
how often do you urinate compared to not self-catheterizing?
how painful is it?

thanks

While I did not watch the video (its bedtime) I wanted to respond to you. I cath to the tune of about 240 times a month. At first it's very painful....In your mind. But, once you get over the SHOCK of cathing, you realize that theres nothing to it. During work hours (10 hours) I cath maybe 3 times. However, on any good beer night, I can cath as much as one time an hour. No pain, just good relief, and YES, you empty completely!

Before you start running a hose up your willy, see a urologist. Going every 2 hours without ever emptying your bladder can be caused by MS. It can also be caused by, or made worse by, a problem prostate. If that is the case then cathing could make things worse.

thanbks for the replies,

i guess i will have to test it out to see how i find it,]
i just expect putting a tube there would HAVE to hurt!t!

i dont think the frequent urination and not being able to empty is related to my prostate as i have has this problem since i was 16 and diagnosed with MS at 17

it seems very common in MS patients

I had a medical assistant at my urologist show me how to self cath, now it's pain free and easy
Forget videos, if you can afford it, be shown how to do it, it makes it alot easier and quick and saves on running to bathroom all night
:)
