Please, may I whine a little...

First of all, my heart goes out to the storm victims. My problems are small compared to the death and devastation they've had to endure this past week.
It's been an awful week for me, the rain seemed endless, my basement has been leaking, actually, leaking is an understatement, cleaning up the water has been a constant battle. The carpet is wet but we can't afford to replace it right now so I guess we'll dry it as best as possible and wait for the mold.
The worst part though is that while I can see the slow progression of this disease over the last six years, it's so depressing to get a big reminder of just how bad it's getting. Last Saturday, I was doing the usual cleaning around the house and as usual, I was barefoot. At some point I stepped on a row of five staples stuck together, the kind from a staple gun which are a little longer. I walked around for at least 30 minutes before my son noticed the trail of blood. I never felt them and by walking around so long like that, they pressed deep into my foot. I knew I had some numbness from about mid-calf down but I thought it was probably just on the surface, I had no idea it went that deep. They didn't come out easily since one side of the row had bent inward but I didn't feel that or the alcohol used to disinfect. About two days later I started feeling pain in my foot, it was the usual burning, swollen feeling, only more severe. I can also see the progression in my right hand lately, it's getting increasingly more sluggish. I can see it most while on the computer, using a mouse. I don't believe the things I've talked about could be considered exacerbations, just slow, steady disease progress.
I really wish I knew with certainty whether my nerve problem is central or peripheral. My dx of peripheral neuropathy came before the MS dx but it's hard for me to believe that I could have two un-related nerve diseases.
I hope next week is better.

Sounds more like Secondary or Primary Progressive MS which could cause those very problems without presenting actual flareups, just a slow progression of symptoms. I wrote about this a while ago, maybe it will help you.

I too had pretty bad numbness for a while in the right side of my body (from foot to shoulder blade excluding arm). I have a very "slugish" left hand... Drives me nuts trying to type.

The numbness is pretty much gone for now but I just have a little trouble identifying temperature an quickly.sharply in my right side as opposed to the numbness.

JL,
Thanks for the kind words. That was a rough week but things have gotten better since.

Matt,
I hadn't considered SP or PP, I thought I was way too mobile for that but I'll definitely discuss it with my neuro on my next visit. I guess I relate SP & PP with a higher edss, which is my own goofy perception. I'm 2.5 at the most.

Yeah at first I thought SPMS meant you had to be in really bad shape but thats not always the case, its just a matter f how the disease is actually progressing. I'm starting to think I might have it but it's WAY too soon for me to jump to conclusions haha...
