P.S. Does anyone have a better Scotch recommendation for me?

Ballantines; Glenfiddish, Asyla...? We don't have Dewar's here. Black Label Johnnie Walker is ok too for my taste...

Okay Algis - which one is your favorite? If my plan is to find the tastiest & most refreshing Scotch, I guess I'll have to get going on my project! My next bottle will be YOUR choice. Of course I was slowed down a little when my reaction to the chocolate/Scotch combo on Tuesday was to instantly become extremely ill for the next 2 hours.

I'm not giving up, however. I'm going to blame it on a stressful day and probably a surprise stomach virus, so I'll try again later. I have to finish this bottle before I get to try the next one.

And I looked up NHE's delicious looking chocolate suggestion - that site won't send me any unless there's someone at home to sign for it. Will have to look for something locally, I guess.

Anyway, here's my quick neuro trip report: Up at 4:30 am, 2-hour drive to the doc in pouring rain, 2 hours back in mist that forced me to do the wipers manually the entire trip. Doc doesn't know why I'm still bothering to go if I'm not going to do meds (I had sent her a 4-page explanation of why none of the DMDs are right for me, complete with research notes/links, contraindications).

She's not interested in my spinal issues - no point in a spinal MRI if I won't do meds. Agrees that almost all my complaints are NOT neurological and I should just ask my local doc. Agrees there's no way to decide whether MS or HNPP is to blame for any specific MS-y symptom. Neuro is actually VERY nice to me, though.

Stopped to shop a bit and then the grocery. I think I'm finally paying for that long day with giant back spasms this morning - doubtless from sitting in weird positions for hours...and walking long distances with a cane... pushing carts. The back thing is a brand new issue - never felt this type of spasm before! And now I have to drag myself to my final art class of the semester, carrying my giant portfolio across campus (plus a cane), sitting on a hard wooden 'horse' for a couple of hours.

I hurt! Scotch would probably help, but Boss likely to disapprove of that solution.

Thanks, Algis! When I was in the grocery again last night I stopped into their new liquor section to see if they had Glenfiddich (they do), but they make you leave your cart outside the door. Without a cart for balance, I have this lumbering Frankenstein-type gait going on, so there I was, wobbling in a drunken manner through narrow aisles stacked high with expensive, intoxicating and easily breakable beverages.

I was afraid to look at the clerk to see what type of horrified expression he was wearing. And...one reason for the cane is so I won't be accused of drunkenness. Maybe next time I'll bring my cane, but I've already lost two expensive canes by leaving them unattended in carts, so I leave it in the car these days.

As for limits, my tolerance these days is about one drink (or 2 if I spread them out over time), so no worries about a DUI.

And, for now, I have no access to a scooter. I'm still relatively strong and mobile (well, except for the "Silly Walk") and it was my choice to take a class that would require so much walking to get to it. My office is very accommodating, letting me take classes during work time, etc. I'm just afraid that my body is fading fast, so it may be my last chance to take an art class since the building is so far away.

That is an advantage of the wheelchair; you're in whatever shape possible no one will make any remark - Take your cane and blame that "darn gout" hahahahahaha

I was as healthy as you could when I was in university (in the 80's) but it was very big and many teachers/students had a golf cart (electric) to go around. Sometimes courses were so distant between workshop; labs and classes that it made real sense.

Hiya, mscubed! Thanks for the suggestion. Now I've got another brand to try when I return to guzzling Scotch after my upcoming hiatal hernia surgery.

As an update on this year-old thread (which is on its way to becoming as aged as the Scotch), I found that both of my treats have become problems. It turned out that drinking alcohol of any kind in the evening contributed to my reflux, choking episodes, which led to aspiration pneumonia, which led to a hospital stay in July. And I must have finally developed a sensitivity/allergy to some types of chocolate, which has now been added to my ever-growing list of foods to avoid. Sigh. No alcohol, no chocolate - for months now.
