okay i'm bored. i don't like three out of four of my classes this semester. two of them i know the stuff mostly already, and one i don't want to know the stuff.

my job is killer, 27, 29 hours a week, just between friday afternoon and sunday afternoon (at least i actually kind of like it there even though it's stressful as hell), on top of 5 2-hr+ round trip commutes to school per week, for mostly snore lectures.

i haven't heard from my boyfriend of 9+ years, since new year's, except for maybe two messenger chats.

and, i'm not just ms-ing, i'm pms-ing too

the only good thing this week was the gym. i can feel my muscles this week - better than the first one, which wasn't hard enough at all.

well time to eat and go to class, GAAAAAAAG

Work and school. That's a tough one. What classes are you taking this semester? Which are the snoozers?

hey there niko thanks for getting into it. the only class i kind of like is my 390, it's mandatory and i don't know what it's called but basically you have to make up a an NSERC research proposal and we're doing ours on incorporating traditional knowledge into arctic contaminant monitoring. this week in tutorial we had to present a physical/natural science method and i did mass spectrometry and other ppl did radiocarbon dating, types of statistical analysis, etc. next week we have to do a social science method.

and that's the class that DOESN't bore me.

one class that actually receives a percentage of my $3100 tuition for this term, taught me, during the wednesday evening lecture, the difference between a hotel, a motel, and a resort. apparently this is important somehow to achieving the parks management part of my degree.

the other two are kind of a toss up. i had high hopes for planning 341, conservation for the built environment, because it's all about water issues and land use, but i know that stuff already so i'm suuuuuper bored in the lectures. i just want to write the exam now and be done with it.

what else. oh joy, 319. canadian environmental policy. the only fun in that class is the debating. which people have managed to make as non-fiery and dry as possible. the text is suicidally boring. but apparently, we require this broccoli because as environmental scientists we have to understand the framework in which we operate. well, i don't have to like it.

last semester in australia i took two indigenous studies courses and they were awesomely eye-opening and completely re-defined racism for me, and opened my eyes to the inherent racism in conservationist and preservationist perspectives. i also took a great biology class where we had to identify anonymous species from keys. the first half was cool coz we used mostly flower morphology, lots of microscope stuff. the second half was creepy coz it was all dead preserved things like frogs and snakes and fish and bats and bugs and jellyfish and prawns and lizards and skulls and bones. it smelt bad. but it was way better than this semester!!!

Those sound like very heavy courses. Amazing. I applaud your ability to work, deal with a daily commute to class and then study for your classes all the while dealing with MS!

Environmental studies and policies... wow! Very neat. I'm sure that once you get your degree, you'll be able to apply it to a situation that make a lot more sense to you. And you'll be able to stay away from the animals under the microscope

When I went to college, I lived on campus and carried my coffee mug everywhere It seems that no matter what school or program, you always get stuck taking some required course. Even when you say "I know that stuff already", the reply is, "Sorry, but it *is* required." They just don't tell you why! ;)

My degree is in History. I got all the "required" course out immediately. The maths, sciences, literature... probably something else that I'm forgetting. I'd thow in a history course in there to keep me sane

But then when I got all the required courses out, I focused on History. I also threw in Political Science courses into the mix to have some fun ;)


I loved my college time. I'm sure you'll feel better and you'll get through it. Cheers to you!!

haha, all i know about history is from reading historical novels. although, at one point i did go through british history century by century. that was about a decade before i realized there was edward rutherford! damn. heheheh.

polysci, that musta been awesome, i should try to fit some of that in too, maybe.

i decided i like my crazy weekend job better than school this semester, for sure. hope my marks don't take too much of a hit from the boredom and business!
