As I am on Rebif, I have blood work done every three months to monitor liver and thyroid functions. Once a year the Dr. throws in all the other good stuff as well - cholesterol, glucose, fructose, oil levels and PSA.

Well, in Dec. I get a call from the Dr.'s office - my PSA level is up. He refers me to a urologist for further investigation.

So Monday of this week I wake up at about 1:00 am needing to go pee. OK, no big deal - of I toddle to the bathroom. But when I get there, nothing happens. This repeats itself every 15 minutes or so all night and the next morning. Around noon I check into the local emergency department. Around 4:30 I get to see a Dr. who decides I need to be catheterized. So the nurse tries on kind of cath - no go. She tries a second, firmer kind - no go. So she tells me she will have to get the Dr. back as it will be necessary to use an 'introducer' and only a Dr. can do that. I'm not sure she appreciated my calling it a coat-hanger. The Dr. decided to give it the old college try with a third kind of cath before resorting to the coat-hanger - eureka - he did it. Sweet relief.

Tuesday, I had my first appointment with the urologist. What a lucky coincidence! After going over the details of Monday he had me drop my pants and bend over - we know where his well greased fingers went. Personally, I thought he was drilling for oil. I've had digitals before but never one like this!

Afterwards he tells me that he found some minor 'irregularities' with my prostate but nothing seroius. He suspects the Monday episode was the effects of MS on the bladder. But we don't want to jump to conclusions. So I have three more investigative appointments. One to take out the cath. and do a cystoscopy - in two weeks time. Then one to do 'flow dynamics' and lastly, a Trans Rectal Ultra Sound and biopsy of the prostrate.

So tell my guys, have any of you been this route and what can you tell me about it?

I to have an aweful time getting a stream started. sometimes it takes 15 minutes of just sitting there. Neuro said it is the MS. He did give me some relief though with the getting up 17-20 times a night. He prescribed me Detrol LA and it has truly been a God Send. Now I can sleep all night. I was hoping that when I start the copax, I will be able to get a stream started easily again, stand like a man and pee again...
