While we're on the good softer stuff I have one to post with a little back story. I was raised on a steady diet of The Beatles and Elton John. Every single Sunday morning my parents would crank Elton and The Beatles (of course others too, but mostly them). You just can't take away anything in terms of songwriting and musicianship when you are talking Bernie Taupin and Elton John; possibly the greatest collaborative team ever if you want my opinion. Well my whole family was going to see Elton John in Columbus at an ampitheater that has a pavillion and a lawn. Well we had lawn seats and my step brother made us about an hour and a half later than we had planned since we wanted to get right up to the edge of the pavilion. So as we are literally standing with our backs to the fence and looking at the backs of people's heads, this guy with a "road crew" ID around his neck approaches my wife who is 7 months pregnant with our daughter. He asks us if we are big Elton John fans and my mom goes nuts thinking they're radio station people and we can get some free stuff.

Well he then told us Elton had bought up the first two rows and sent him out to find people to bring down front. We got placed right in front of his piano. When he sang the song "Blessed" (a song about expected children) a guy from the back brought a rose out to my wife. It was like he sang it to her. Very, very cool thing and the only pure luck thing that's ever happenned to me. So I love Elton John and if you've never seen him live, you just don't understand how good that little dude is on the piano. Anyway, here is one of my favorite mellow Elton songs and also the "blessed" song.

Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters

Blessed

Blessed is not one of my favorite songs of his by a long shot, but just listen to the words and remember when you were pregnant with your first. It's pretty moving when you're in that place.

My husband has a dear friend that owns a couple of Radio Stations in Tennessee and twice a year he had a "Oldies Concert" Caravan of Stars. We actually go and spend the whole day while they rehearse and do their sound checks, but then we work the concerts. Hubby takes up tickets and I help seat people and sell posters. We get to meet them first hand and eat supper with them. We stay at the same hotel and sometimes drink a little coffee with them the next morning. It is a great experience and my husband is like a little kid. I got to spend some time with 2 of the wives of 1910 Fruitgum Company guys. (does anyone remember them????)

He can only afford to get the lead singer of a group or if it is a duo or family he can sometimes do that. You have to remember we are taking about a very small venue. He does a meet and greet for the fans with the stars (for photos and autographs etc.)before, at intermission and the after the show. You would not believe how many people bring their Albums and 45's to be autographed. This is a dying thing, a lot of these stars are not able to do the mega touring shows anymore. Some of them are from the 50's and 60's era mixed in with some 70's and a smidge of 80's.

Right now my MS mind can't think of any of the names. I'll try to remember some of them and see if you guys recall any of the music.

Wait, The Cowsills, John Ford Coley (from England Dan and John Ford Coley), 1910 Fruitgum Co, Dennis Tufano of the Buckinghams, Jerry Yester of the Lovin' Spoonful and his brother Jim Yester of the Association, Eddie Brigati of the Rascals, Bo Donalson and the Haywoods, Question Mark (96 Tears), Jimi Jameson of Survivor.

That is just a few of them over the years.
