advice on a planned vacation

am appreciating any advice one might have on a planned vacation. My husband and I will be going on a vacation that brings us to warm/hot but beautiful breezes, in December. I live in NJ and managed to get through these past 2 days of warm with no worse feelings from the heat, spend most of the time in the pool, however, last month we had a hot, humid day that just doing anything took everything out of me. So feel so confused at this point what to do, my room is right on the beach, so I don't have to walk far to get to the pool, maybe a little further to get into the ocean, I figured I can just go in the room at the high sun of the day. I'm looking into eating in only places that have A/C and inside, because so many pickings have outside dining, like i said there is constant trade winds. Have even been thinking of having a electic scooter to get around the hotel and eating places within a normal person walking, but I have diffculty with my walking and thought even having a cool bandana around my neck, i don't want to over exert myself walking ,if it should be walking in the hot. This all sounds crazy and yet its 6 months away. I'm just trying to plan some things but am very unsure at this time. ANy ADVICE????

Robbie is right on there. Conserve, conserve, conserve, or you may set yourself up for big dissappointment due to you looking so forward to it. Hey, it's like taking a winter coat in the fall; you can always wear it or not, but you can't use it if you don't take it.

I go to the Dominican Republic, or Martinique or even just Cancun. It is like a necessity for my sanity now... But, the heat is just so nice. I just lye in the shade if I start to get too hot or, of course, dip in the pool... mmmm
Hope you will enjoy your trip ok?

carolew,
am planning on Aruba in Dec., they have such a constant breeze, and park yourself undercover, get yourself a little cooled down in the pool, between the breeze and the cover, well, its just a beautiful thing. When its the hot of the day, i'll just go into my room and hang out a little in the AC for awhile, It nice to chat with someone who understands your need for the warmth, even though we don't do well in heat

Aruba IS WARMER then where I usually go so your tricks are all good.
I have had normal people telling me it was too warm for them... Are you dead set on Aruba? it is very close to the Equator hence the high temp.
What ever 7you decide, go for it....Carole

carolew,
went to aruba last year, got a really nice place this year, right on the beach, open door onto beach and few steps to the left and you are at pool, the tropical breeze there is wonderful, realsy doesn't make you feel the heat so bad, so sad, because I love the sun. Last year my husband and I came back, no one oculd believe we were in Aruba, some color but not alot, we spend all outside time under umbrella, only sun time was in the ocean. This year December ( temp at that time is about 82, between my coolers around my neck and wrists, and as I said the high sun of the day, I'll just step into the room in the AC , hopefully this will all work out. If not unfortunately we will be eating in room more. I inquired about a electic scooter to get around, that will save the energy for me. Anyway, not to change subject here, but how long have you had MS and how are you affected by it, what medicine to you take, ( i am on copaxone ) ?

Great for you. I have had ms for 30 years. I have a bum left leg: foot drop and Trendelenburg that make my walking awkward. I manage. I still work full time and am taking nothing now. I am waiting for Germany to answer me. I want a stem cell transplant.
I believe in exercise and brain plasticity. Never stop moving is my moto.
Hope you are ok.. take care , Carole

Hi there

First, I really hope you enjoy your holiday :D
I live in Africa, on the east coast, southern hemisphere, so my summer is in Dec/Jan/Feb - and it gets into the high 30'sC with humidity in the high 90% range. I have the ocean on my doorstep, and a pool in my backyard. During the heat of the day, I stay indoors in aircon - the problem is, at night, it does not really cool down much and is still very humid (not sure about Aruba) - that is when the pool comes in very handy! You handled it well last year, so I am sure you will be ok if you pace yourself. The heat makes me very weak, dizzy and tired, and the numbness and neuropathic pain even worse...
However, I went to the UK on holiday in Feb and it was so cold - below 0C at night with day time highs of 3 or 4C - and I had a lot more energy than I am used to (my winters still have daytime highs in the mid 20'sC, so I have not been so cold in years) - but another problem became more pronounced - stiffness and muscle spasticity were much worse, could hardly bend my legs and this was very painful
So my point I guess is, different weather extremes have different effects on us - and we are all different. You know how you are in the heat, and seem very sensible in knowing what to do to make it more comfortable for yourself, so I am sure youwill have a great time.
