CHICAGO – Carrot Top Records celebrates its "Sweet 16" anniversary on September 26th -27th with a benefit for The Accelerated Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to curing Multiple Sclerosis by determining its causes.

Living with Multiple Sclerosis himself, Carrot Top Records owner, Patrick Monaghan, uses the celebration of the company's Sweet 16 to help raise awareness of the disease.

"My hope is that this benefit will not only raise money for a worthy non-profit organization that's methodically working to speed up the pace of research, but will also hopefully raise awareness among people who may not know as much about the disease as they should," says Monaghan. "A better understanding of how unforgiving this disease can be will hopefully also motivate others to either donate or get involved in helping in some way."

Chicago-based Carrot Top Records bills the two nights with eight label represented artists, including The Bitter Tears, KatJonBand, Antietam, The Coctails, Lys Guillom, Speck Mountain, Megan Reilly and The Handsome Family.

"Making it to sixteen years just speaks to the privilege of working with so many wonderful people who have also been exceedingly talented musicians," says Monaghan.

Antietam http://www.carrottoprecords.com/artists/antietam/
Coined "the best guitarist in the world" by The Village Voice, Tara Key and Antietam blend icy northern cool with fiery Southern rock that mash Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young and Yo la Tango into a trio of indefinably raw rock 'n' roll.

The Bitter Tears http://www.thebittertears.com/
A proud absurdist lyrical point of view, eclectic choice of instrumentation and classic psychedelic/garage leanings give The Bitter Tears an unapologetic and delightfully crossbred pedigree of cabaret-rock and over-the-top folk.

The Coctails http://www.carrottoprecords.com/artists/coctails/
A mix of sneaky hooks and wavering guitar lines, the multi-instrumental foursome of Mark Greenberg, John Upturch, Archer Prewitt and Barry Phipps creates an ode to soaring pop and sprawling rock melodies that are just an example of their musical range and ambitions.

Lys Guillorn http://www.lysguillorn.com/
With her un-named genre of music and unexpected lyrical twists, Lys Guillorn's highly literate brand of avant-garde folk encompasses her diverse singing, songwriting and instrument playing in "oddly uplifting, folk, blues, country-infused, acoustic semi-electric psychedelic dark pop music."--Comes With a Smile)

The Handsome Family http://www.carrottoprecords.com/artists/handsome/
Creating music for over a decade, The Handsome Family of Brett and Rennie Sparks travel from swamps and caves to laboratories and bowling alleys with their new record, bringing with them their uniquely beautiful and hauntingly indescribable brand of folk and country inspired music.

KatJonBand http://www.carrottoprecords.com/artists/katjonband/
Punk rock pioneers' Kat Ex (The Ex) and Jon Langford (The Mekons) share a microphone that summons Jon's gruff Welsh pirate howl and Kat's clear-as-a-bell Swabian soar with anthems covering the Iraq war, globalization, class, greed, patriotism and kinky sex.

Megan Reilly http://www.carrottoprecords.com/artists/reilly/
An angelic voice that conveys her ghosts of past and present, Megan Reilly's understated elegance soars on the country-tinged Let Your Ghost Go. A follow-up to her debut, Arc of Tessa, Reilly retains her lilting beauty that draws comparisons to Cat Power, Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis, and Tanya Donelly.

Speck Mountain http://burntbrownsounds.com/artists#13
Speck Mountain's psychedelic dream pop is filled with slow motion funk bass-lines, electric piano and blanched out sax to help flesh out its lush orchestral space-rock. For a recent feature on Daytrotter's Sessions, lead vocalist Marie-Claire Balabanian is lauded for "leading us to think things that we've never thought about, leading us to be absolutely curious to hear what else she and this engrossing new group have in store.[/url]

Patrick,
Way to go! I have found that taking the time to raise awareness and funds is the only medicine that works completely.
God Bless,
Lars

Thank you for doing this. We, too, are big supporters of Accelerated Cure Project (my husband and I). This will definitely be of benefit to them.
