All prescreen testing is done at your local lab / doctors w/in one month of leaving for treatment and then sent to JH.

They run labs every day you are there so there is no reason not to let your local docs do as much as possible so they don't have too.

Thanks for clearing that up, Chris! :)

Btw...I was just looking at your photo album of the HiCy treatment. The central line pics made me cringe a little.

Did it hurt?

I had a hickman for 9 months, I was treated for Lyme Disease before I was dx with MS. They don't hurt at all. Surprising because of the location. It was a pain to try and shower, I mostly took baths for the 9 months I had a hickman.

777,

So sorry to hear you had Lyme too. I have a good friend who has Chronic Lyme.

So the Hickman probably looks much scarier than it actually is...

well it is scary a little. I had mine so long I was clearing my own lines. I learned I couldnt breath in when changing the cap because it would cause an embolism. I think there they obviously take care of it and probably never need to change caps.

Sometimes it would itch where the line goes in, but thats because I had mine so long the skin was healing around it. It's not as bad as it looks though. They give you an amesiac medication when they put it in, You just dont rememebr much. To take it out you are awake and they just pull and it's over. No pain at all.
