Detailed research that correlates life histories of symbiotic
spirochetes to changes in the immune system of associated vertebrates is sorely needed. Genome analyses show that in necrotrophic symbioses (Borrelia and Treponema sp.) of humans and other primates, integration of the bionts occurs at the gene product and genetic level.
Fascinating paper, Sojourner. Do post it on the antibiotic or general thread. I know many will enjoy reading.
Kitty- Sojourner has been here longer than you or I. And what this paper says is that our relationship to spirochetes have changed our genetics. More in line with Bob's hygiene hypothesis. Nine months of antibiotics will not change the human genome back.

Papers like this illustrate the possibility that we know NOTHING. That's why I posted it here---
Of course, the educator in me knows that disequilibrium is a step toward understanding.
Petakitty---I did not mean to upset you. Geez, we hardly know each other, and I don't think the post does any damage, really......does it?
Anyway..didn't you also post a link concerning HIV?.....
Oh, plus your nine months of IV abx would be interesting to hear about---have you considered posting your experience in the abx section? Any collective knowledge we can gather would be beneficial. If you already have and I missed it, I have to do more homework.
