Hives, copaxone - need information

Hello, I searched and the topic hives was already discussed, but though I´m askink. Did anybody have hives? I have terrible hives for 14 days (now I ´m hospitalized on cortizone cure, which helps, but when it stops, it appears again). I use copaxone 1 year and had no problems so far, but my neuro said, she couldn´t separete out the copaxone like a reason of hives. That´s why I don´t continue with copaxone now (for a week I didn´t inject it), but the hives doesn´t go away.

Should I continue with copaxone, or not? Could it be the cause? The doctor say, that it would be very unusual to have an alergic reaction after 1 year of useing.

To be sincere, I have the only wish now, get out of hives no matter how! :x

I had the same problem and immediately stopped Copaxone as recommended by the manufacturer. It also affected my breathing. I started LDN 6 month ago and haven't felt better in years :D The rash/hives did dissapear after I was off Copaxone for a month. My breathing was back to normal after about a week. I will never take another crabs drug.

I have been using Copaxone for 3 years now and about a year ago I too broke out in hives terribly for almost 10 months, I was told the same thing from my Neurologist, not likely the Copaxone after taking it for 2 years. Steroids, every antihistimine known and H2 blockers (zantac) did nothing. I was sent to an allergist who finally gave up and said it was related to my MS in the sense that it was a failure of my autoimmune system, I now agree with her. The only thing that helped me was vigorous exercise and meditation, 2 times a day (each) for 30 minutes or more. I did not dare stop the Copaxone. The harder and longer I worked out the better I got, finally it went away. For me something amazing was happening when I exercised to the point of sweating for 30 minutes, it was like my immune system was too busy to attack my skin but it does not work overnight, it took me about 2 months of this before it finally stopped. I feel your pain and hope this helps you or someone else with the same problem.

Hey Pat good to hear the problem cleared up. Since I started LDN I have never again had rashes, hives, spasicity, stiffness, pain, fatigue, foot drop, etc. The theory behind LDN is that is regulates your immune system rather than suppress it eliminating so many problems experienced with MS. This allows your body to be flooded with endorphines which are extremely healing to the body and regulates the immune response. Most MSers have low endorphine levels. I really never believed my immune system was overactive as I was advised years ago. Lets say it is confused. As we all know most every doctor wants to suppress our immune systems with drugs (and with live with their side effects) and I just never believed that was wise. LDN has provided me a slow progressive improvements that I just couldn't be happier about. I will stay with LDN until, until there is ever a cure found.

SEE MY RESPONSES BELOW/ABOVE. THESE REACTIONS ARE VERY COMMON ALTHOUGH DR'S WILL NOT ADMIT TO THAT. MINE FINALLY DID TELL ME IT WAS THE COPAXONE AND IT STATES THE REACTUION ON THE SHEETS OF SIDE EFFECTS THAT COME WITH THE MEDICATION.

People have been known to lose 5-10LBS after starting LDN. I've been on it now for 6months and have lost about 5lbs. I've noticed my cravings for carbohydrates is much reduced and that is what I attribute it to.

Chronic Hives/MS/Copaxone

Hello,

I am having the exact same experience and the previous post by pat neal. Same course of treatment, primary care than allergist. I have been having the hives not at the injection site BUT covering about 80 percent of my trunk area, upper thighs, arms etc. They travel. My neurologist told me to stop taking the Copaxone seven weeks ago but the hives persist. The drugs must make some metobolic change in your body somewhere. I need help figuring out a. how to get rid of these hives to get some relief and b. how to find out what changed in my body or how to help it get unconfused. Anyone have any ideas of what type of doctor I should try next?

I had this problems last year and stopped Copaxone. I didn't do anything but stop the copaxone and it took about 2 months to clear up. Not sure if Copaxone changed anything in my body but I did wonder about that also. I then went on low-dose Naltrexone to stop the progression and I feel so much better than when on Copaxoone. Hope it clears for you soon. Mardie

Hey Wayne, I do not know what Doctor can help with ther problem. Give it a month and if nothing changes then you might ask your Neuro what he would reccomend. Mine had cleared up pretty well in a month but it took 2 months to completely resolve. Good luck!

Wayne,
Spend some time in these archives from real hives sufferers http://askwaltstollmd.com/archives/hives.html . You can learn a lot in that forum but as always; be careful what you read. Meditation, exercise and whole foods was the answer for me but it takes time for your immune system to calm down. It sounds like you have been through all the workups with your doctors to eliminate an underlying medical condition for your hives and are left with chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) as a diagnosis. I personally do not believe Copaxone is the root cause of your hives. STRESS is the root cause of most chronic illness and the healthcare system is getting rich from it. There seems to be many strong believers of LDN on this website, for me more study has to be done, an LDN debate here is not going to help you with your immediate problem. Try a cold shower then baby oil, this will help give you some temporary relief but you need a long term solution to get your immune system back to normal.
