kidney stone?

I've been on copaxone for about a year and a half. We tried stopping it then going every other day, but still lumps the size of softballs, fire engine red, with burning and itching for a good week. Now, I've found out I have a kidney stone, and when they discovered the kidney stone, they saw "something questionable" on my liver. In reading the material on copaxone after this, there seems to be a connection to copaxone. Has anyone else had problems like this?

Hi Willowwoman-

Sorry for your difficulties w/copaxone, and now kidney stones. Not fun. Copaxone can increase levels of uric acid, and that could be part of the kidney stone scenario for you-

Copaxone is the only disease modifying treatment that does not need to have liver enzyme testing. The beta interferons have been linked to liver damage, but there is no research on Copaxone harming the liver. Hope everything's OK!

Kidney stone experience

willowwoman77--

I have had a kidney stone, but there could not have been a connection to Copaxone (since I took it for only three months about nine years prior to the kidney stone episode).

It is more likely that there was a connection to vitamin D for me, since D is recognized for its connection to calcium and the bones (before my kidney stone episode, I had been taking 8000 IU of vitamin D daily for about a year and a half).

I didn't think there was a connection either (kidney stone, or liver) but if you read the insert, it does mention kidney stones and also incidences of liver damage and cirrhosis. So, for me, copaxone is a thing of the past. My liver function is fine. If they weren't looking for a kidney stone, they would not have seen anything on my liver. Had a gall bladder x-ray about 2 years ago and they didn't see anything then, so it does make me wonder.
