Interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons that will treat the stenosis.
There are 2 types of tests. Doppler and MRV (a variation on MRI). The tests need to be able to image blood flow in veins as opposed to arteries and requires different protocol and software. Please post your test results and the name of the organization that did the testing.
The treatment is angioplasty in the vein, called veinoplasty. A relatively simple procedure where a probe is inserted in the groin and directed to the place where the blockage is in the jugular vein in the neck or to the azygous vein in the chest. A balloon is used to open the vein. If needed a stent is inserted if required to keep the vein open. The resulting blood flow usually produces immediate positive results especially for remitting and relapsing MS patients. The benefits for primary progressive MS patients is not as dramatic and long term results are not yet known.
The operation lasts usually under an hour. A dye is used to help the surgeon see where the blockages are located during the operation.
