Hi everyone. This is my first post and probably the question I have has been posed before, sorry if that is so. I have been reading through screeds of info and doing searches and haven't been able to find much on this so if I can be pointed in the right direction it would be appreciated.
My husband was diagnosed as primary progressive in 2005. Diagnosis took over a year. Before he became unwell he worked between 60 - 100 hrs a week as a self employed interior plasterer, so used to being up ladders etc. What he first noticed was the fatigue and poor balance. He now is confined to a wheelchair and can't work because of the fatigue and all other symptoms that you guys live with. He came off his trail bike and rammed his head straight into a dirt bank at speed back in 2003. Was not knocked out, however was worried for a while about maybe a broken neck. Had bad headaches, which have since eased, but CT scan came back normal. Has anyone else been diagnosed with MS after an accident, where before they were fit and healthy. I am wondering whether veins in the neck have been damaged and this is the reason why he has had such a rapid progression of MS. We are in NZ so a long way away from seeing any interest over here for CCSVI, although pleased to see people in Australia having some luck. He had a lumber puncture which came back normal, has lesions between T2-T4, and ?T7. Any comments, clarifications would be welcomed.

Your descriptions are very much like what happened to me, back in 1990. I had a very bad ladder accident. Years were spent trying to figure out what was wrong with me. Unfortunately, here in the USA worker compensation cases are a nightmare from hell. The insurance company fights every inch of the way while you are seeking medical help, because the more that is discovered wrong just increases their financial liability.
Or they send you to doctors in their pocket to prove you are faking and just a fraud out to cheat the poor insurance company.

To answer your question, an empathic yes. A serious neck or head trauma can cause MS; I bet some veins were damaged.

I had a car accident, in which my car ended up on its roof and when I unbuckled, I fell on my head...this was just before my first m.s. attack at age 16.

Hopefully CCSVI treatment will reach New Zealand soon. No MSer left behind....

Hope you get answers..I have wondered if accidents caused my problems.
When I was 14 years old I fell 2 floors onto a concrete floor. I was dazed and dis-oriented for a day or so. To my young recollection I believed the back of my skull had been flattened. As an early teen-years athlete, I was prone to getting an extremely red heated face while exerting myself with soccer or hockey for example. My face would get so red others would comment on it and ask if I felt all right. Other than the red face that had my pulse beating in it, I felt fine. Around the age of 15, I had my first occurrence of, when throwing a basketball as far as I could, I felt an explosion in the back of my head and neck. It was so pronounced I felt my neck as I believed it had exploded open and I would be bleeding. I wasn’t bleeding, but I did have very similar occurrences perhaps a dozen times over the next few years. As an adult I have had much lesser versions of this over the last 10 years and maybe about a dozen times. In High School I wrestled and then got into boxing. I worked for over 30 years indoors in refrigerated meat plants. I have had a motorcycle crash where I struck a tree with my head around age 18. I have been in an auto accident where my head broke/cracked the windshield at around age 38. I am very concerned that vascular damage may be left as yet untreated and potentially causing other conditions to impair me. I have also developed tinnitus and vertigo around age 49.

i was rear ended at a stop light by a recycling truck. thought my ataxia was from a spinal injury--- finally lead to MS diagnosis about 3 years later after. i experienced ataxia and numbness, the cervical spine lesions seem to be the most significant. but i also have had numbness and weird signs before that. super cold hands and feet. hot head w/ exercise. can't wait to be scanned.

When I was 4 I fell off a slide onto a concrete floor - lost vision in both eyes for about an hour (about what I recall). Never thought about it again until now and wonder if I set things into motion. 2 years ago I picked up all 3 of my kids at once and felt my neck crunch. MS symptoms appeared a few weeks later. Went to chiro and symptoms gone. A few weeks ago I did something similar, but was the night before cancer surgery (nice luck, right?) so I ignored the pain and didn't go to chiro. MS symptoms appeared about 2 weeks later. I am fairly certain that these neck injuries are a big part of my MS. Working with chiro, massage and diet. If no help, then I'll look for CCSVI testing.

After seeing the MRV scan that someone posted on one of the facebook sites and all of the various blood flow routes within the head and neck, I am even more convinced.

A friend of mine was diagnosed 10 months after a bad car accident. I think his seatbelt broke his clavicle bone.

There is rightnow emerging a possibility for CCSVI in NZ.
You have to look for the member muse in this forum.

you just reminded me that my ANS specialist asked me if i had an accident as a teen.

i was thrown from a horse in the middle of a show and had no memory for 5 hrs later. hmmmm.

In 1997 I had a bike accident. Lost consciousness for around 10 mins and had a minor concussion.
In 1998 I had first MS symptoms.

i have waited to post this because I wasn't sure where to put it, so here goes...

I used to be a big skydiver. My MS showed itself after a rather severe landing. I also was a snowboarder. Again, a lot of trauma.

ANYWAY, I heard about how Montel is a big proponent of seeing a chiropractor to ease his MS symptoms, so I went to one and he did x-rays. Long story short, he asked if I had been in a car accident because my spine in my neck area, which is supposed to have a slightly forward curve instead has a slightly backward curve. He is fixing it now. And man, I have to say, it was scary looking! That's right where my jugulars are ;)

I have become totally addicted to the adjustments, mostly because I feel better all over. I have more energy, but who knows, maybe it's placebo. Not sure about CCSVI and its relation to this issue, but it's one thing I feel I can be proactive with, it IS covered by insurance, and heck, fixing this problem will help me anyway.

Maybe trauma will turn out to be another piece of this puzzle. Isn't it reasonable to think that trauma could cause reflux? I have always thought chiropractors were a little 'voodooie' (is that a word?) But those x-rays didn't lie. There really IS something wrong with my spine in my neck area, and getting adjusted DOES make me feel better.

On a purely different note..these adjustments always make my neck (especially the back of my neck) feel warm. It feels really good, actually!

I had head injury as a child had severe memory loss for full day also had another accident when i was 16,fainted and hit back of my head, ms symptoms started about 6 months later. Yes i think it is connected

At Christmas 2001 I had an accident while body-surfing in Thailand - was smashed into the (sand) beach by a large wave (head first, of course), then my body was twirled around my outstretched arm, severely twisting my shoulder. My first MS symptoms began 4 months later.

Yup, similar story happened to me. I had a car accident in 2007 and I was diagnosed with pms in 2009. Although I was not hurt physically in the accident, I was really shocked

Maybe there is also a link between emotional shocks and ms…
