Better Living Through Science

Okay, those of you who listened to last week's testimony before the Canadian parliamentary sub-committee will get this. The doctors who were advocating against immediate treatment and for more scientific study were quite the bunch were they not? Well, I encountered a song at the end of a computer game called "Portal" this morning and it reminded me of them (fun game, by the way, if you're into that sort of thing). I borrowed a few lines, changed a few and added several more to express my feelings about the opposition:

----------------------------------------------------------------

Better Living Through Science

Each study a triumph, every experiment a success.
Enamored with my own intellectual largesse.
We do what we must,
In Science we trust.
Except the ones who are dead.

But there's no sense crying over every blunder.
I’ll keep on trying till they’re all six feet under.
And the Science gets finished.
While you subjects are diminished.
For the people who are still alive.

Please don’t be angry. We just need to be sure.
My Science is pristine, and my motives so pure.
Even though you feel burned,
Think of all that we learned
For the people who are still alive.

Look at me still talking when there's Science to do.
When I hear of your troubles, it makes me glad I'm not you.
But I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are still alive.

I really don’t understand all the uproar and commotion,
This Science will save you if you give it your devotion.
Just make your donation,
To the MS foundation.
As long as you are still alive.

Good Science takes time, several years at the least,
Even longer for our high standards to be appeased.
I’m sure you will thank us,
When you come to your senses.
I can’t believe you are still alive.

And believe me I am still alive.
I'm doing Science and I'm still alive.
I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive.
While you're dying I'll be still alive.
And when you're dead I will be still alive.
STILL ALIVE

FlashHack, the lines you have written reflect the disturbing realizations I and many have come to about the agendas of the neuro and scientist we listened to, as well as the MSSC's parrotting stance we have heard over and over again.

More and more and more science (let's delay this for as long as we can) and who cares about the MSers who worsen and die in the meantime.

Never mind that we didn't do any science on this CCSVI issue for years, you should still be very grateful that we were the first out the door when W5 blew the lid we had been sitting on. Now quieten down like good little MSers while we pussyfoot around for as long as we can.

Please stop all your noise about wanting CCSVI testing, we cannot allow this to happen. Seriously, MSers, surely you know that we cannot "advise" or "recommend" this, because it will only prove how many of you do have this condition - and we would rather just hang on to Buffalo's first study that showed less impressive results than Dr. Zamboni's.

Now don't you even think of harping about the different equipment and protocols used by Zivadinov and Zamboni, because you'll just force us to edit you out to "ensure ease of viewing"....that's to ease of OUR viewing, because we cannot bear to see/hear/read/speak the truth if it doesn't strengthen our case.

As for wanting the treatment - don't even get us started on that, please. We have you-know-who waiting in the wings, ready to tell you that there will be no one for the trials if we treat everyone!!! Goodness, must we keep repeating and repeating ourselves over and over to you...don't you listen? Can't you remember? Oh, we forgot, cognitive issues....never mind...hopefully you'll soon forget all about this CCSVI business too.

Hey, did you get our first invite for the do at the Marc Anthony Salon? How about our reminder? What about the follow-up phone call? WHAT? You turned it down? You turned down an evening of wine, hors d'hoeuvres, free consultations - that was only intended for our top fundraisers?? What is WRONG with you???

What? You didn't raise a cent this year? OOOOOPSSSSSEEEEE! Okay, okay, okay, we were actually just trying to give you some sugar and get you back on our side. Hey, can't blame us for trying, can you?

Well, we are sorry you cannot attend, but please invite anyone else who would like a free evening of munchies and drinkies because we really need to fill the salon for media opps. We need some more photos of MSers happy to remain sick as hell with their only concern being, "What to do with this mop of hair of mine!"

As if we didn't have enough to do, what thinking up better responses for our people other than "I was not aware of this", "people have died"; dreaming up new marketing campaigns like "End MS"...didn't you just love that one???? Brought us in a lotta loot!!

Gosh darn it, we thought our appeal to the government for 10 million dollars for research would have quietened you down, what's up with you people? Just don't forget that you have terrible FATIGUE issues too, and we're sure this fight will tire all of you out very soon..... In fact, y-o-u a-r-e v-e-r-y- t-i-r-e-d n-o-w. Y-o-u d-o-n-t w-a-n-t C-C-S-V-I...

Sorry for my rant, FlashHack.

Don't Apologize

No apologies necessary. That was a quality rant!

You are very kind, FlashHack, thank you. Your feelings were beautifully expressed in "Better Living Through Science".

I will try my very best to make that my last rant...probably doing more harm to my health than good.

I wish they would hurry up and do the right thing as some seem to still feel they will...they might.

Take care and keep well.

thanks

Flash and Chrystal

Clearly you are both still enjoying at least intermittent good circulation to your brains!

Excellent poem,
Great rant!
Thanks
