Has anyone run across any meta-data on the outcomes of patients who have had stents then later developed MS. There are literally millions who have been treated for vascular problems via stents and angio. How do their numbers relate to the general population?

You really need to do more research on CCSVI. The stents are placed in veins for CCSVI, not arteries as the other stents you mention have been placed before.

There is a study indicating that quite a few ms patients suffer from cardiovascular problems as well as MS, and that there seems to be a connection between the severity of the cardiovascular disease and the severety of the MS. Its all just an indication at the mpment and further studies are needed. They are also looking into if treating the cardio issues can help with the MS progression as well. I'll see if I can find the link somewhere, if nobody beats me to it.

I too saw this recent study linking vascular disease in people with MS to earlier onset of disability (I think it was linked to onset of the need for a cane or wheelchair).

It made me think AHA! here is another plausible explanation for why the Swank Diet (and other low saturated fat MS diets) may be effective in slowing the progression of MS.

Which brings to mind the question of whether a diet good for other types of vascular disease might also be good for CCSVI ?

For an anecdotal report, I had 3 stents put in May 09. My MS isn't any better. They were all put in arteries. I could have used a fourth, but he said collateral growth had made it less necessary and he couldn't unblock it (said he couldn't get the balloon in, I think).

What foods you eat seems to affect your angiogenesis. Some will possibly stimulate the growth of corollary veins. Best to have a venoplasty, and then ask if you need more or fewer veins. If you have been taking LDN, that apparently has an effect.

I think arteries have nothing to do with MS... not even with CCSVI

in what way would LDN have an effect?

No meta data

Simple answer is no. There is no meta-data on the outcomes of patients who have had stents then later developed MS.

i think arteries will come into play with ms. especially reading about ctos surgery. but this surgery at this point doesn't involve stents.

CTOS could be about arteries or veins... in case of CCSVI it should be about veins

I guess I was unclear Jay. I was trying to find out if vascular problems are a harbinger of MS.

I have read quite a lot on ccsvi in the past few months and, although I am no expert, I am familiar with the difference between veins and arteries.

I also read somewhere that veins and arteries were merely two sides of the same coin. Wouldn't malformed arteries suggest vein troubles as well?

There was that one genetics study in April that showed that people with MS had a defect in a gene involved with venous formation. (Can't remember exactly...)

shye, LDN is an angiogenesis agonist, it increases the amount of angiogenesis going on...which means more collateral building, which is good if there is a blockage to get around!!
