Am I right in thinking that if a Echo Doppler is used, along with MRI and MRV and a person with MS shows only one of the five criteria for a CCSVI diagnosis, they still may have CCSVI? (sorry for long question, don't know how else to explain it)

To truly be diagnosed, a Doppler and a Venography must be done. Am I correct?

Mohzi - I've been wondering about this myself... After recently going to Buffalo (BNAC) for ccsvi testing, I only had one of the five dopler criteria... so technically, I received a negative dx.. Then the neuro. says "maybe", since my mrv showed a bunch of collaterals and some narrowing up high with elliptical, flattening, "candy wrapper" twisting whatever..... Kinda perplexing since only a radiologist read the mrv and not a vascular specialist.. I then tried to show the mrv to Dr. Sclafani, who says catheter venogram needs to be used. Keep in mind that mrv and doppler cannot see azygous veins too..

I'm pretty sure that they go by the Zamboni criteria - you need 2 of the 5 doppler criteria for a positive ...

Anyway, I'm heading to Albany next week - they go straight in with cath. to check.. Maybe after it's all said and done, the imaging and doppler may turn out to be innacurate enough to warrent skipping the step all together... as if we don't have enough to worry about already.. now false positive, false neg. - how a positive mrv/doppler test, then when they go in and find nothing.. not to mention the expense.. all makes my head spin..

I'd just as soon do the cath. venogram and find out right away.. if they find something - fix it.. and be on our way... - outpatient, minimally invasive, minimal anastesia.. what's all the fuss about, huh?

I question BNAC's numbers now... might be why they are so low.. perhaps if the mrv results were read by a IR and this info. along with the doppler would work better??? who knows?

I'll let you know after I get "the catheter".. lol

Does anyone know if the more criteria you meet, is it generally the worse off the MS symptoms are?
