Montrealer travelled to Poland for surgery

When Francine Deshaies left for Poland to undergo an experimental treatment for multiple sclerosis, the disease she's been battling for more than 16 years had progressed to the point that she was confined to a wheelchair. Now, only one month later, she can walk around her Montreal home without even using a cane.

"I have no more spasms in my toes. I couldn't walk because of that. I can bend my knees. I couldn't bend my knees for five years," she says. "I've got stronger legs. Of course, I'm going to have months of physiotherapy to do because it's been many years they didn't work."

Deshaies says her fatigue and migraines are also gone. It's proof, she says, that the treatment works and should be available to MS patients in Canada.
