Hello fellow Ontario MSers ... Has any one tried to get OHIP coverage for out-of-country procedure, with success or without success? I would like to try but want to know if it has worked. Please advise me ... thanks.
Here's the OHIP Out of Country Services website: http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/p ... roval.aspx

I haven't tried (Yet!), but I think the answer will likely be No because they consider the procedure experimental.

However, check out the article in the link below about a family who were reimbursed through a court challenge for their son's brain surgery after docs here said it was "too risky." His situation is different from ours, but it still may have some relevance.

You probably know about Angioplasty for All. They are launching a Charter Challenge in Ontario. When they win (They're quite confident they will!), they will immediately follow up in all other provinces.

Angioplasty for All has raised about $11,000 to date. Their website (http://www.angioplastrryforall.com/ has info about how to donate. Their goal is to have treatment available right here at home--which is what I think most of us prefer.

Thanks Blaze for your comments. I think I will try to send it in so that it is documented. I expect that they will say no, but I am going to try. I can't wait until Canada completes their trials. I do know about AFA and am a member. I think it is exciting that they are going forward this month with litigation. Tim Donavon is having his treatment today/tomorrow! Cheers
