His remarkable survival is due to his parents' single minded refusal to accept the doctors' grim prognosis.

With no scientific training they took on the medical establishment and set about finding a cure. And in 1986 it seemed they had succeeded.
Their astonishing story was told in the Hollywood movie, Lorenzo's Oil.
10 year study into the effects of Lorenzo's Oil has come up with surprising results.

The point I am making here Lorenzo’s oil did help some and not others.

For me this film showed the downfall of the
•medical profession ,
•The Society that was put in place by them to help

The family were failed by them and soon after Dr’s Neuro and others felt the shame and it affected their career and how the mighty did fall.

This film demonstrates

•a man with passion to wake up the professionals
•A kick start to look for a cure and not just palm people off with no cure, time will see , every one is different
•He look outside the box

The real value of the movie has been to show people that in cases where you have a disease in the family or yourself, you have to be proactive -- don't wait for doctors to tell you what the remedies are," he said. "It might be there is a doctor in Australia or France who has the answer, but you never know if you don't get in touch with them. I think the movie contributed to the changing relationship between doctors and patients."

You may like to see "Awakenings" also; probably very famous in Western countries; starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams.

A bit different; but I think it somewhere connects with us (MS'ers).

Hmm. 'Awakenings' although fascinating is also very challenging and reminds us that 'cures' are not always cures. The 'cure' was temporary.

Lorenzo's Oil wasn't a cure either. It might help delay the onset of symptoms, but I think that's still to be proven. Some studies have found it ineffective anyhow. But at least he puts all the money from his patent into further research now. Very stand-upish.
