This is slightly off topic but about 1 year ago I ended up in the hospital with excrutiating chest pain. The doctor immediately gave me a nitro glycerin pill and a super antacid drink. Happily it turned out not to be a heart attack, just acid reflux. But the next day my MS symptoms seemed somewhat better. Nitro is a powerful vasodilator. So now that Im aware of CCSVI I'm wondering if the nitro glycerin temporarily opened any blockages.

BTW I don't know if Viagra would have a similar effect but I think it could have an embarrassing side effect.

10,000 studies

Back to the science...

I once read that Dr. Zamboni said there would be 10,000 studies over the next ten years, and I bet he's right. Venous insufficiency will probably touch upon many areas that we can't imagine right now. My PCP's cousin has MS -- who was the first US MS patient to have a bone marrow transplant in Israel ($250,000) -- and my PCP was scribbling so fast when I was telling him about May-Thurner and using the left femoral vein. 10,000 studies.

Edited to include this paragraph that somehow disappeared the first time:
My neuro-ophthalmologist said vision could be a huge area for VI study. He said other MS symptoms in the head and neck, such as hearing, balance, vertigo, swallowing, neck movement, taste, and smell, might all be helped. He wondered if Albany Medical Center might be studying more than just CCSVI; when I asked him for examples, he said he had no idea. I'll follow up with him on my follow-up with him.

Sheesh. I keep losing text!
Have any women here tried Viagra? A question for my PCP. I'd try it if my PCP recommended it because I trust my doctor, and besides, it sounds somewhat lame compared to Novantrone and Tysabri.

I have some Cialis, decide to give it a try tonight. Could be the only try, as I'm getting CCSVI liberation with an IR this Thursday, but what the hell. Why not have a pre-surgery, drug-aided roll in the hay? An hour in, I noticed I my walking was a little better than expected, but that could be a thousand factors. Bottoms up!

I was trying hard to learn about this a few weekends ago in a fancy hotel room and my doc wife told me that vasodilation doesn't only refer to veins but all vessels, arteries too.Have to admit I didn't feel much MS relief, but my senses were a little overwhelmed at the time...

bluesky reported this as well (the nitro, not the viagra....) and Dr. Sclafani commented on it:

I would have thought a vasodilator would work on a lot of stuff. But they are very tricky to use and some work on small vessels and not on large. I take nitro for angina but it gives me excruciating headaches and is hardly worth it. I've never used it for ED. For me Levitra works but no headaches there and I'm not going to mess with it if I have angina because it can really go overboard with nitro, and kill you. Hypotension, aka death.

So if in doubt, don't. Or as my mother used to say about cats, when in doubt, wash.

Ok. I took a 20mg tablet of Cialis at 4:30PM. Noticed changes about an hour later. Spasticity reduced quite a bit. and I was much, much stronger. Unfortunately it only last for about 4 hours and I had tachycardia. Which is a possible side effect. I will cut the tablets in half and see what that does.
