I was in Albany last week for my CCSVI procedure. Dr Siskin, who as you know is very experienced, could not find my azygos vein. He said this was a first for him. Is it possible that I don't have one - I am 56 years old and if so what does this mean?

You've missed, I think. You want to click on Dr. Sclafani's thread, then hit 'reply' within the thread.

I think they were just looking for his help, I've noticed he replies outside of the miasma of questions on his thread as well.

Well, yes, but it's easier on him if it's all in the thread, plus it's nice to break up the chatting with actual questions! :)

I can't remember anyone else with a missing azygous. Missing jugulars, yes, but not the azygous.

Another reason to have MR before your procedure is to give the IR the lay of the land.

Not to mention the flow quantification you'd get with the Haacke MS-MRI before/after runs. As in verifying that the IR actually fixed something.

I wonder what the AZY equivalent of collaterals would be. Illiac/lumbar veins?

Two azygous veins? Perhaps a (an apparent) bifurcation?

FWIW; When i had my first procedure, I was told that there was no stenosis in the azygous, but that there "is a bend". I presume that they did not mean the arch. In the video of the azygous portion of my 1st procedure (the polish patient), there appear to be a couple of jets not going into the SVC. Perhaps collateralization there?
