Hi,

I have a Milk Thistle supplement for Liver support and started taking it one week ago, and with no other variables afdded.

So since taking i have noticed my legs are a bit weaker and stiffer and i am a bit more off balance,

this could just be a coincidence but i read ab out milk thistle that:

From http://www.angelfire.com/il2/purpleflam ... istle.html :

Milk thistle is used to treat inflammatory liver ailments, especially chronic illnesses, such as hepatitis and cirrhosis. Gallbladder ailments and related digestive symptoms, varicose and spider veins problems in the legs and jaundice are helped by milk thistle treatment, as well. A silymarin injection is an antidote to poisoning from the "death cap" mushroom, amanita

- i have 30-50% IJVs stenosis as they enter the chest and May thurner (not yer treated)
I take 75mg Aspirin each morning

So is it possible the milk thistle is making my veins more narrow hence the increased symp[toms?

Or do you think its just a coincidence im feeling worse?

Stop taking it and see if your legs feel better. Everyone is different. I recommended silymarin as part of the endothelial health program because Jeff had high liver enzymes and coagulation issues, and it helped him achieve normal blood results.
Usually, milk thistle causes few, if any, side effects. Studies show that it’s safe when taken for up to 41 months.
Milk thistle may cause diarrhea. More rarely, it may cause nausea, bloating, gas, and upset stomach.
Women who are breastfeeding or pregnant should avoid using milk thistle.
If you have a ragweed allergy, you should also avoid milk thistle. Milk thistle may cause a rash or lead to severe allergic reaction.

Always check with your general physician before beginning any supplement program. Hope you feel better!

so as i seemed to have improved today i will stay on it and see if i get worse again

thanks

adamt,

I am curious to know how you are doing on the milk thistle. Any further improvements? Here's a link that showed it was useful in EAE in mice, an animal model for MS.

talk to your hubby's doctor, Why--
Milk thistle can interact with certain medications such as phenytoin, halothane fexofenadine (Allegra) and some cancer medications. Milk thistle can also interact with antipsychotic medications like haloperidol, chlorpromazine, fluphenazine and promethazine. This herb can also interact with certain anti-anxiety medication like alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium) and lorazepam (Ativan). Some blood thinner medication like clopidogrel (Plavix) and warfarin (Coumadin) can interact with milk thistle. Contact your physician before taking milk thistle if you are currently talking any of these medications.
Jeff got the OK to take it (one week out of each month) with his plavix, because his blood numbers stayed good, and his liver enzymes are perfect. But he gets regular blood tests.

Thanks Cheer,
Of course, if I asked the doctor that, I know what his face would look like...he would think I was crazy, which he probably thinks already. I will ask him though....just for the challenge.
Hope you are well.

Milk Thistle doesn't cross the blood brain barrier, no? I'm not sure that I'd expect it to achieve what you want it to achieve because of that.

after that one improved mobility day, the following day my legs were weaker again, so have stopped taking milk thistle,

since stopping m legs have gone back to the way they were before starting milk thistle

not sure why it made me feel worse though
