I am not sure which formulation/brand you buy CD but brands are readily available in the USA without soy.

These contain D3 plus Other Ingredients (Excipients):
Pure Olive Oil (fruit), Gelatin, Glycerin, Purified water.

States that they are:
Free of Sugar, Salt, Starch, Yeast, Wheat, Gluten, Corn, Soy, Barley, Fish, Shellfish, Nuts, Tree Nuts, Egg and Dairy Products. No Preservatives, Artificial Colors or Artificial Flavors.

I use iherb.com but most suppliers have soy free D3.

Mark, everything here in the USA is more of the same:
D2 and D3 are both made with soybean oil. All the softgels in all vitamins here, even our other brands too.

Nature made Vitamins A well known brand.

Vitamin D Liquid SoftGel 1000 I.U.

Ingredients: Soybean Oil, Gelatin, Glycerin, Water, Corn Oil, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol).
As ingredients may change from time to time, please check the label on the bottle.

No Artificial Color. No Artificial Flavors. No Preservatives. No Yeast. No Starch. No Gluten.

I think it's in the Glycerin in other brands. JMO

FWIW: Soy has Estrogen. We have more young guys that are bald (not shaved) and with man-boobs from too much soy. JMO They don't have the head of hair their Daddy's had/have or held it as long. I think there is too much soy in our diets nowadays.

CD, I am very much in agreement about soy, and that goes for corn too, personally don't touch either one.

I found a Vit D without soy, made by Solgar, 1000 IU/made w/ gelatin Safflower oil, vegetable and glycerin

Oh, I forgot to mention I live in the U.S. and the Solgar is D3.

Thanks Z, I'll check it out. :) I used to get some Vitamins (Solgar) from Vitamin Shoppe, with coupons, when there is a 50 percent off sale. Or when they have a BOGO.

fyi my hi-test d3 liquid
http://www.thisisms.com/ftopicp-44702.html#44702

edit: by the way the instructions on the label are what i told the pharmacist to put on it. i was relaying instructions from the mcmaster drug info office but also combining info from research.

the label says take 50,000 IU for 10 days and then 4000 IU/d thereafter.

the 50,000IU/d x 10 days is mcmaster's instruction for boosting D3 levels by 50 nmol/L.

the 4000 IU/d thereafter is what i figured i would need for daily maintenance (based on research findings).

FYI that protocol for boosting 50 nmol/L was right on the money for me when i first tried it. maybe it even went a little better, say maybe close to 70 nmol/L boost from the first go. the second time i tried it, i had identified and corrected zinc deficiency. with adequate zinc in my system, i responded quite differently to 50,000 IU/d for only 8 days, with a serum jump of 170nmol/L. so i went from 103 to 271, which is up in the hypercalcemia risk zone.

ps in early days when i was a newbie they would mix this liquid d3 in oil for me, so it would be diluted to 4000IU in a reasonably easy amount to dose using that red oral syringe. i had a choice of peanut or olive. now i just get it straight without any suspension at all, and i use a needle instead of the oral syringe to dose out a tiny tiny drop (still about 5000IU).

I buy from USA

I buy my D3 softgels from iherb.com in California, they are delivered all the way to Oxford, England. I do not recommend tablets as the bio availability is less reliable. There are many brands based on olive oil with no soy at all. I do not want to name brands on the forum as that is advertising.

It is very difficult to find high dose (over 1000) D3 without soybean oil. We have found a 5000 D3 capsule that is quite small. Yes it has some soybean oil, but how much can be in a small capsule. I've also heard that refined soybean oil is much lower in harmful lectins than actual soybeans. I'd prefer something other than soybean oil, but I feel this tiny amount of refined soybean oil is fine.

I used the Nature Made 5000IU. I took 2 per day for about 3 months and had my blood tested. It was only 49, within "normal range," but well short of the 250 I was shooting for. So I don't think the 5000IU is accurate at all. Hopefully someone knows of a supplement that is as potent as advertised because the trial and error approach takes too long.

I named the brand I use for the sole purpose of letting folks know that D3 is available in the states in gel capsule without soy products, which seems to be valuable information.
This is not advertising. Advertising carries with it the intention to sell. something, and it is clear that my intention is to help, and to share useful information. Let's not confuse the two.

No Soya in USA D3 brands

I did not want to name brands on the forum but these brands do not have soya and are a softgel (best bio-availabilty) with 5000iu per capsule. Prices in US dollars excluding tax and delivery:
Healthy Origins 14.95 / 360
Now Foods 11.48 / 240
Jarrow Formulas 7.77 / 100

I found Doctor's Best does contain soya. If in doubt ask your Pharmacist or the Drug Information department about the exact contents.

If you are very accurate at measuring (like Jimmylegs) you could buy the liquid form but I do not recommend this for most people.

5000iu per day of D3 is a starting point for pwMS. It is cheap and worth it for your vascular health and immune system.

Hi Mark,
Are man/woman/weight/age/ etc factors?

Thanks, pc

yes there is an age difference. if you're older you synthesize d3 less effectively from food and sun so you might need higher doses. blood work is key. you don't want to go higher than 250nmol/L but aim for at least 125 nmol/L.

TIMS members are welcome to share brand information as long as we do not personally profit.

Softgel is important

The softgel (or liquid) formulation is important as this gets absorbed.
Nature Made has some powder capsules Rokkit and they are not the same.
All the factors questioned may impact levels as will your latitude of residence and sun exposure. I recommend a safe approach - take 5000iu/day in softgel form then get tested. In UK we have a slighhtly higher target level at 150 nmol/L (Jimmylegs said 125). I would like to see all pwMs in the range 150 to 200 nmol/L.
