A very interesting discussion.

The medical team made it clearto us that they did not want to use a stent and that it would be a last resort, but they could not ethically proceed without having permission to use one if necessary. I believe Patientx got it right when he/she said that the doctors were being up-front. Thinking about it now, I would question a doctor who would push an object up into your juggler and "guarantee" that they would not have to use a stent if something goes wrong.

Nothing went wrong with my wife's procedure. She had both IJV's ballooned and no stents. It has been 4 days and she is showing great improvements.

We won't know until we have real studies on it. Right now a lot of stents are from medical tourism, without follow-up care, so the statistics on that are going to be different than the statistics in studies with follow-up care.

We mentioned to the doctor that my wife was not going to exercise for a while and she said "exercise is good for you". This was a casual comment so maybe I shouldn't read too much into it. The doctor also said that after the procedure we could go out for a nice dinner that evening. My wife napped for a few hours after the procedure but we did end up going out for dinner.

I also asked the doctor that since the IJV is much more open when lying down, wouldn't it be better to stay laying down as much as possible after the procedure. She stated that it didn't make any difference. It would not impact the chances of restenosis.

I don't know if extensive rest is important or not. I'm just passing along some comments that I noted.

Bruce, it's terrific your wife wants to exercise, and I do hope she gets to enjoy going out to dinner many, many, many times! ;)

My comment about rest comes from liberatis, including myself, who wish they had rested more and had not overdone things after their liberation -- so I thought I'd just pass along our collective thoughts, especially with the busy holiday season here.

With a husband like you, I'm sure she'll have no problems.
