This is one of Dr. Siskin's patients. Clotting was caught quickly (within two days), she was re-treated, which involved an additional two stents being inserted. Also she was put on daily Lovenox & Coumadin! Either one alone is powerful anticoagulation. Are they safe in conjunction?

For now the outcome is holding steady and good, but the complication does make it a cautionary tale of sorts. Best wishes though that from this point forward it is smooth sailing.

Lots of views but no replies. Hmm I know you and BS from another place.

I am the person you mentioned. I was put on Plavix 75 mg right after first Angio. But Plavix takes time to coat the red blood cells so they don't stick together. So I clotted before it had time to work. I clot fast.

After the second Angio to clean up the clots, 2 stents were put in to get flow going again. In order to maintain flow, I immediately did a shot of Lovenox (darn shots again, pooh!). This was for ten days only.

I was also put on Coumadin (Warfarin) 5 mg, because this oral drug takes time to thin the blood. I feel confident with these medications. Maybe high dose, plain Aspirin would have worked faster. Lol

Thank for the well wishes. I joined to explain the concern you have with anti-coagulation medicine.

Blood clotting is a risk, thinners are a risk, in fact all medications are risky for that matter. I trust Dr. Siskin and his opinion on my medications, after all life itself is a risk.

thanks CD, I thought it over before posting here, I hope you don't mind me doing so. Plavix doesn't take effect immediately - of course. I knew that and forgot it. And that makes sense now that the lovenox is basically to tide over until the coumadin kicks in.

Yes, Dr. Siskin is an excellent doctor, he is much liked here. There are pluses and minuses to all the anticoagulation choices. The Arixtra that Dr. Sclafani goes with takes effect immediately, but I've been told by someone who is purchasing it OOP that it is really expensive. ($2000? Not sure of my memory on that.)
