stories like this are powerful. I worry that people who make a huge stretch to get money together have no choice but to report big improvements. Economic placebo.

For some it works, for others it doesn't...

For you it didn't work, there could be a number of factors behind this.

Good for you for wanting to give it another shot, it must be very difficult to have had no positive results and I can understand your cynicsm when other people do report positive results.

My partner is being liberated this Monday - we have our fingers crossed firmly, but we don't know what the outcome will be until the day itself.

I'll report back when we have results.

Financially this not a problem for us so there's no compunction for us to report anything other than actual results.

I don't sense any "cynicism", only practical realism.

Finances are only one aspect to placebo - degree of invasiveness, "hype", belief in benefit, cost, lengths gone to, taking any treatment at all.

We are all prone to placebo to one degree or another. If not, they would just need to weed out those people with certain characteristics in order to gleen a treatment's true effects.

That hasn't been achieved yet, placebo effect is intrinsic in us all, no one is "above" it. Which is good, since it is really tapping into an amazing ability in us.
