Dr. Hewett will be making a few stops in Canada in April to talk CCSVI. Special guest at the first one is Dr. Ashton Embry! This seems like a great opportunity to learn more about CCSVI. If he tries to claim, though, that his clinic is the only one treating the valves, then let me know, I am all over that one! (All the IRs are treating the valves, CCSVI is primarily a disorder of the valves. My own treatment involved treatment of the valves in both my jugulars, it was done with excellence by Dr. Sclafani....) That concern aside, I think highly of Dr. Hewett and would attend these if one was happening anywhere near me.

Dr. Siskin treats the valves, the same as the doctors at Pacific Interventionalists. He's got a lot of experience. Wishing you improvements!!

I had my valves treated at PI 5 days ago. At the del mar vein care in San Diego they clearly did not in my previous 2 procedures! The discs of my first two show they were not treated as they used too small a balloon (14mm) with too little pressure.

That makes sense, garyak, better than I'd been understanding it. I think of it a little differently, that at del mar they treated the valves but they undertreated. (And when you're paying full price for failed treatments, ouch.)
Congrats on the successful procedure at last.
Mine was successful at 18 mm and 14 mm balloons at 10 atm, but mine were fused leaflets, and from what Dr. Sclafani has been saying, annular stenoses are the ones that take the very high pressures.

he works with Dr Arata, Harris and Grewal at Pacific interventional. My 5 day postop results show improvements again especially with my spasticity.

So, in summary, my approach to dilating, is big enough and aggressive enough to get the job done with the secondary goal of minimizing the amount of injury to the vein wall and to the surrounding normal veins.
For some of this, there's no one-size-fits-all answer (or one-pressure-fits-all), it depends of the patient's specific malformations. So the nuance is to find a doctor that can distinguish one type of CCSVI from another type of CCSVI and treat accordingly. Undertreating and overtreating are both bad and both possible with the same exact pressure/balloon size, from one patient to the next.
It helps now to understand that when PI or PI patients are saying that their doctor is the only one treating the valves, the specific claim is that the other docs are treating the area of the valves but under-treating.

garyak,
what meds did you get from PI post procedure? Were they expensive? Is that something Canadians might get before we go (march9th-). We were in Poland beginning of July. Good results for about 5 weeks.

I think this might be the best way to interpret their claim of treating the valves. We are all dilating the same areas.
Its important to remember that we do not know the idea size to balloon to. And it always important to remember that in IR its very hard to under do something you have done, and easy to come back and do more if needed.
