Health Minister won't authorize funding for controversial MS treatment...yet

BC's Health Minister says he needs to see more research before authorizing funding to cover a new controversial therapy for multiple sclerosis patients in this province.

"We're certainly going to track that very closely and there's a team of researchers in place now who will conduct the work and prepare a report for us."

Mike de Jong says he understands the frustration from MS sufferers, but he's seen conflicting reports on the benefits of Liberation Therapy.. which involves the opening of narrowed veins in the neck.

"We want to make sure that British Columbians have safe access to leading edge treatments, but there is continuing debate within the medical community and the research community about this treatment."

Canada has one of the highest MS rates in the world, but a University of Buffalo study has found only 56 per cent of MS patients have narrowed neck veins.

Neurologists use the statistic that approximately 20% of people have no improvement after surgery. That is an aproximate number of patients with fresh matter venous malformation who has no chance for angioplasty or stent implantation. That was the amount given in an interview with Dr Maciej Kielar http://www.medicover.com/plen/hospital/ ... -staff.htm . He informed that his hospital seeing such deformation departs from the surgery. There is no chance in such cases to improve, and may be even worse (thrombosis).
I had the surgery - the balloon of the Jugularis valve and at the same time the already large vein was automaticly enlarged. Now I had to reduce the diameter of the Jugularis in the open surgery.
