A medical center in Bulgaria's Black Sea city of Varna has suffered from a bomb explosion in the small hours Sunday.

The bomb went off around 4 am, damaging the entrance door, breaking the ground level windows, and destroying expensive equipment.

The medical center was blasted with a grenade, thrown intentionally at the place where the Doppler equipment was.

Varna is a residence of the main pharmacy monopolist Mareshki, whose daily earnings in selling drugs are about $ 10 millions (which is quite a big number for such small market).

Varna is also known as the only city in Bulgaria which is "owned" by the mafia and that same person Mareshki takes part of it.

One hypothesis is that this is a sign, send from the pharmacy industry.

Second one - insurance fraud.

I just want to point out, in case this was *not* an insurance bomb (I've heard of insurance fires, but grenades?), that the last time I had a kidney stone an echo Doppler ultrasound was used to diagnose it (shows blood vessels in kidneys). I think these machines have a lot of uses, and if any of the bombers get sick they might wish they hadn't blown it up. If it's a kidney stone, it's really gonna hurt, and they won't know why.

indeed, but as far as I know this is the ESAOTE MyLabVinco® Echo Doppler and the owner said that it was an equipment used to "treat MS".

Eighther it is an insurance bomb, meaning that this equipment was not worth the money they've given, or it has to do with CCSVI business. Both tricks are very common in Bulgaria even nowadys :(

Dr. Zivadinov may be able to comment on whether this machine works well. I think they are fairly reputable. They made Doppler ultrasound machines before CCSVI appeared. In fact it is likely very useful outside of that area, including babies, cardiac, kidneys, any blood vessels, etc. I guess they don't call them wise guys for nothing.

How awful. Whatever the reason...
The medical center, specialized in the treatment of multiple sclerosis, is owned by a Varna resident.

Police have stated they have no information of conflicts that the owner has, which might have provoked the incident.

The main working hypothesis of the police is a campaign to sabotage the medical center's business. Further investigations are underway.
A campaign to sabotage the man's business, which is CCSVI treatment!

Very glad that there were no injuries.

It sounds like a neurologist bomb to me (at least in the USA that's my first thought). The ultrasound that was destroyed is the brand of the transcranial doppler that Dr. Zamboni is involved with.

Scary stuff! Attempts to sabotage the business, which was treating patients with M.S.?!? I don't think even we thought anyone would stoop that low.javascript:emoticon('')

Thank goodness no one was injured or killed. But, a bomb and grenade are bad enough without injuries. Who would be so despicable?!?

This helps to understand the setting.
Has CCSVI treatment affected the earnings of pharma directly? I can't imagine that it has yet.

Here is a picture of Mareshki:
