Sharing the creativity of the CCSVI community

Wheelchair Kamikaze's and Jason DaSilva's artistic presentations at Dr. Sclafani's symposium got several of us thinking about the creativity of our community and how to harness it, share it, and turn it into a way to give back.

There are glass artists, photographers, graphic designers, painters, published authors, professional composers, singers and musicians, and the list goes on and on.

We are thinking of pulling together a show/silent auction with proceeds going to ccsvi research. There are a few groups with mechanisms in place to fund research-Annette Funicello's foundation, which generously provided healthy snacks at Dr S's symposium. Montel Williams has a foundation, and he's recently put his page on Facebook. I've heard he will ramp up fundraising for CCSVI in the fall. Dr Siskin has a fund for his research, as does BNAC which actively fundraises and will have an event in NYC in the fall, and Dr. Dake. I think Dake's study is funded. I bet there's more that I don't know about.

Zinamaria, HappyPoet and I want to create a group to showcase and promote the artistic talent out there. We'll use this thread to kick it off and then move to pm's to exchange emails so we can get to work. Not only will we need to assemble artistic talent, but we'll need people to organize and promote it.

Let us know what you think so we can take the next step.

I think I must have some impressario kind of genes. My brother runs a house-concert series in his house, and used to run a coffeehouse. He knows a lot of musicians and music businesspeople. His daughter does concerts in Ottawa. My dad used to bring poets in to the University of Windsor. I have two children, who are both brilliant visual artists. One just graduated high school and the other starts at an art school in second year in the fall. We are having our second annual art show in our back yard this summer, as it seems to be a hit. I play guitar and piano, so how I got to be in engineering is a mystery.

There is a guy two doors down from me who used to have a music recording studio in Ottawa and now is in a band with his son, but he could probably help, as he is in the marketing business.

If you think I could help, count me in.

Could we make this an online event or events ? If there were an auction I could contribute by being a buyer :) Since I live in the midwest USA, any event on the east or west coasts I cannot participate in. For example, I bought one of the beautiful CCSVI bracelets and I would most certainly bid on any art in support of CCSVI.

Also, which CCSVI organization would the funds be donated to ? A particular clinical trial or CCSVI Alliance or.......... ?

OC,

All great questions and suggestions.

It is possible to do an online auction, or have a component of it be online, but web work isn't my thing. My dog charity does two each year. You need a website, you need good pictures of each item, everything shipped to the person who ships them back out. It's a ton of work but it enables people to pay using paypal and keep it going for several weeks. If we go this route, we need a web expert to join in.

The group will need to decide who to "work" for re donations. I forgot to mention Dr. Haacke also has a research fund.

I knew there was art in your life in there somewhere 1eye! I used to teach high school math, go figure.....Great to have you on board!

OZ, perhaps there would be someway, if we did not go online with a website as far as an auction goes, maybe there would be a way to at least post somewhere all that is up for sale?

Come on all you talented ones out there, let's keep this thread alive for some ideas!

I think we should find a gallery in NY where they would be interested in hosting this somehow (I do have a friend in Brooklyn with a gallery so I will contact her) and maybe during or around the time of the symposium?

I make art quilts and would be willing to donate for silent auction (or whatever) This is a great avenue for those of us who want to promote ccsvi research but are unable to donate $$. And it's always fun to buy :)

Newlywed, an art quilt sounds beautiful...fantastic. And thanks Algis, we'll keep a web auction in mind...who knows how we'll do it but one thing is clear, I think we can raise funds for CCSVI!

That would be a great title for a book, or a song, or a movie: My Dog Charity.

My offspring might be convinced to paint something if there was going to be an Art Auction.
