Is this tried and tested? FDA approved? (I know it's not a food or a drug.) Are there any references or studies or anything?

I hope they can be used in the stent as most occlusions we heard are happening within the stent.

Nice. This can break through a hard clot, and you can use force. But, what happens to the broken piece's? Will they dislodge and travel to the brain or down to heart?
This is not a leg vein blockage we are talking about, this is the neck and chest veins. Apples and oranges? This is like lysis used for adhesions.
If they could break them up or laser them away, or even catch them in a net and pull them out, wouldn't that be more logical than RF?

@CD. I had a clot in my stent that the doctor (cardiologist) cut up to remove it. I guess it gets cut up into very small pieces so it is no danger to the patient.
But if you read how this device works.....vaporizes a channel through occlusions

As far as I know RF is also used to close veins off. A vascular doctor told me that the vessel or veins inner tissue (endothelium, intima) changes at RF treatment, some type of damage is done to the lining and I'm not aware of the healing process afterward, if the vein lose flexibility or strength, etc.
RF generate heat do do the job and will depend on currents used. Any RF experts here?

Don't want to be negative folks but the reality is crossing chronic occlusions is not hard. This tool will help the very small number of patients that we can't get thru with usual approach. It will not change fact that jugular stents don't work. This means that azygos occlusions or short jugular occlusions are where it will find a role. With complete jugular occlusions I no longer try to open them as stents are needed but have very poor durability. My experience with bypass is also poor. At this time we just don't have a good option for this problem
