Dr. Zivadinov: Epstein Barr virus & irritable bowel strongly correlated with CCSVI. Crohn's disease may be CCSVI patients too #CCSVI #ISNVD
How could Crohn's and CCSVI be related? I did a quick search and saw PointsNorth saying that LDN helped with Crohn's and that Tysabri is sometimes prescribed for Crohn's.

a number of years ago there was a small study done about viagra and crohns. the results were very interesting in that the study suggested crohns was related to blood flow. seems that blood flow might be responsible for more than just strokes and heart attacks. i will look to see if i can find the study.

i'm not very good with some of the technology but the study was published in the lancet.

Viagra could help Crohn’s disease

22 February 2006

Crohn’s disease may be caused by a failure of the immune response, contrary to the commonly-held view that the disease is caused by excess inflammation, a new study by UCL (University College London) scientists has found. The findings, published in the Lancet, suggest that Crohn’s sufferers could be given Viagra to boost blood flow to an infected site, thus improving the body’s inflammatory response to infection.

Hi Guys,

I'm starting to think that the term "auto-immune" has become a placeholder for diseases etc. that we know too little about. Don't ask questions, keep to the script. Fyi - I've found that ZINC has been a silver bullet for Crohn's thanks to Jimmylegs and TiMS. Dirt cheap too at around $20/year!

Tysabri as treatment for Crohn's too! Interesting! Bit more expensive than Zinc, tho. I've never heard about the Viagra solution to Crohns. Sill more expensive than Zinc :-D

As an FYI - I don't know about a connection between CCSVI & Crohn's, but Tysabri (or Antegren) was in trial for treatment of Crohn's at the same time it was in trial for MS. In fact, many may recall that one of the 1st 2 PML deaths that put a temporary halt to Tysabri (February, 2005) was of a Crohn's patient from the trials along with the MS patient. The Crohn's patient had only had 8 infusions.

Tysabri is an approved med for Crohn's, and it's included in the extensive, official Tysabri "Prescriber Information" on their site. Here's the link:

They both have a permeable endothelium and endothelial dysfunction.
That's why tysabri has been used in Crohn's, it is supposed to decrease permeability and leukocyte migration.
But it's an awfully risky drug to do that.

You do not need an errant immune system to create endothelial dysfunction.
All you need is hypoxia, slowed or disturbed blood flow. That's enough to change the permeability of the lining, and allow the immune system access into tissue.
I get nervous when I see some researchers trying to bring this back to the autoimmune theory without investigating the other mechanisms of endothelial dysfunction.
Glad John Cooke and J. Steven Alexander spoke at the conference.

Hello Cheer,
I do not understand why medics do not give anyone with immune problems Vitamin D3 and Omega 3 (endothelial health program). It is probably too cheap, simple and safe.

I hate the word autoimmune. It is just researchers being lazy. They mean a disease involving the immune system in which the provoking factor(s) are unknown, as yet.

Kind regards,
MarkW

PS - MS is not an autoimmune disease. PwMS do not get immune system problems from automobiles, cars etc. Eventually we will understand the factors which trigger MS but not yet. While we wait, just treat symptoms like CCSVI, Vit D deficiency, etc.

one of zinc's hundred-plus jobs in the body is maintaining the integrity of membranes.

lots of relevant posts by yours truly on the values of healthy zinc status in the early pages of the ccsvi forum. compilation:
http://www.thisisms.com/forum/post56463.html#p56463

zinc status is known to be poor in both MS and Crohns patients, although i have not yet seen any studies measuring zinc status in ccsvi study subjects. maybe one day.

glad the zinc helped your crohns PN :)

fyi quick comment on the mention of vit d3: i found that my d3 dose-response tripled after correcting zinc deficiency. knowing status through bloodwork is key - if you fix a zinc problem, you may not be able to rely on an older d3 regimen to be safe any more.
