Best way is with a venogram. But the person interpreting the scan is also very important. A blood flow expert would be best. Vascular or cardiothorassic doctor that knows what they are looking for.

Get a doppler ultrasound for CCSVI done by someone trained and experienced. Depending on where you live, we can tell you the closest option.

Dr. Reid at EHC is up in Glasglow.
MarkW, if you see this, is there anyone closer?

Dania mentioned a venogram and that is the procedure itself, where a catheter venogram is done using xrays and then the catheter is exchanged for a balloon catheter when a stenosis is found.

Before I got that far, I'd had two ultrasounds and an MRV, so I knew my veins were a mess. :)

The best way to check to see if you have a stenosis is with IVUS and venography. If you have MS, nothing else is satisfactory.

Dr. Sclafani is right about IVUS and venography. But remember that IVUS+venography is invasive, so this is done as part of the procedure itself. If you are looking for noninvasive imaging to help decide if you want to go ahead with the procedure, I would still recommend getting a doppler ultrasound done.

thank you people you are very kind, because of you guys my thoughts are a lot clearer, i need to undertake on either an invasive or non invasive to identify stenosis and than possibly undertake the liberation treatment. my cardio vascular person does not think I have stenosis, but that is his viewpoint, he has offered thorough conclusion if i want, as its on private treatment, my GP is completely supportive. The treatment centre closest is EHC, I have spoken to them, they have a waiting list but its do able.

thanks once again all you good guys,

RT

A CT scan (64 slice) is also another way of detecting stenosis, less invasive, not as conclusive as a venogram but far more accurate than an ultrasound. This is what my cardiothorassic doctor did to me (as well as an ultrasound and a venogram) before he did a vein bypass on me and did another CT scan again 4 days after the bypass operation to see how the blood flow was. He found 1 side was 100% open and the other was 95% open (due to a small hematoma).

Another point is, unless you have someone who knows what they are looking for, the interpretation of any images whether it is an X-Ray, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, venogram etc. will be useless. I just had another CT 64 slice scan yesterday and I am sending the images to my cardiothorassic surgeon by email. I completely trust his judgment and that he will be able to accurately interpret the images.
