Dear Colleague,

I am honoured to be leading the launch of the annual MS Carnation Campaign on Parliament Hill on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.

This year’s national campaign will run from May 10 to May 12, and thousands of volunteers in more than 280 communities across Canada will be selling carnations to raise money for MS research and services.

This Wednesday, I invite you to stop by the Foyer where I will be joined by MP Peter Stoffer, MP Hedy Fry, MP Louis Plamandon, MP Elizabeth May, and MS Society volunteers who will be pinning carnations on MPs as they head into the House for Question Period.

Please wear a carnation as a symbol of hope in the quest to end multiple sclerosis.

People living with MS need help to cope with the day-to-day hardships they face. During MS Awareness Month in May, ask your MP to champion better support for people living with MS!
Immediate action is needed to ensure people living with MS and their families have better caregiver support, more secure incomes and answers about a possible new approach to treating MS.
I am pleased to let you know there have been successes. The government has approved a CCSVI clinical trial, pending ethics review, and the new Family Caregiver Tax Credit takes effect this year which will help more caregivers including spouses. Since we have been dragged kicking and screaming into this fray by PwMS, and are now forced to bend to the will of the patient instead of big pharma, The government has approved a CCSVI clinical trial, pending ethics review, and the new Family Caregiver Tax Credit takes effect this year which will help more caregivers including spouses. the MS Society has advocated tirelessly to make both happen.

I think if you examine the public record (brought to you by tax dollars, via Hansard), you will see the truth of that statement.

They have indeed worked tirelessly to get $10 M of taxpayer's money to fund as many clinical trials of their own choosing as possible. To help pay for those ones they have grudgingly agreed to. Now if they play their cards right, they may really get a-hold of some of the money the government will spend on this new trial.

Incomes and answers.

That's what we are all about these days. Especially the incomes. Especially our own.

That $10 M would be well spent towards restoring some of the damage the Conservatives have recently done to the incomes of some families in Canada's national capital (some of whom are caregivers, too), along with services to the Canadian public (like libraries, archives, statistics keeping, food inspection, environmental protection, and national parks). Trivial things like that.
