TMJ alignment with Dr Amir

Hi all,
I started to see Dr Amir about 6 weeks ago, before I give an account of what has happened with Dr Amir Ill give a little background to my MS history/symptoms.

I was diagnosed about 13 years ago and my progression has been slow and steady, I don’t really suffer with relapses (well, noticeable ones anyway). Although I suffer with bowel problems, cold feet, lower backache, tiredness on a daily basis its my walking which is the most problematic/disruptive. I can only walk about ½ mile before my legs are too heavy/weak to continue, as I still work it makes the journey to work difficult on a daily basis. I haven’t taken any drugs at all since I was diagnosed and have tried many diet supplement regimes.

Onto Dr Amir.
At the initial appointment with Dr Amir he took an XRay of my teeth so that he could assess where he needed to move the teeth and did some kinesiology type tests with my arms to see if he could feel the difference in my strength when moving my jaw into a different position. He also asked me to stand and take a deep breath then do it again when my mouth was positioned differently, I did and it did feel easier to take a deep breath when my mouth was positioned as he wanted it. He then told me that I he thought I had a long standing chronic breathing condition which is playing a big part in my symptoms and that by adjusting my jaw/teeth he felt it would improve my symptoms. After agreeing to the treatment I went away and was told that I would need to check in every 2 weeks to adjust the brace and be assessed.

Onto the brace and effects….
The brace itself is a lightweight aluminium type brace which sorta pushes your teeth outwards from the inside of your mouth. After wearing the brace for the first time I had muscle aches in my back as though I had been at the gym, after about a few days I did notice that my walking had become different. Prior to the wearing of the brace aswell as my legs being heavy I would get stiffness in my legs around the groin/hips area making it difficult to swing/lift the leg but after the brace it seems a lot easier to move my legs around that area therefore making walking easier and quicker, this has continued onwards without any decline. That said I can still only walk ½ mile or so, its just easier to walk that far before I trip, whereas before I would trip due to my legs feeling like a lead weight now I seem to trip due to lack of power in my calves to push the legs/feet forward. My balance seems to be better also, although this is hard to quantify I feel more secure on my feet and don’t feel as though I could lose balance with the gentlest of a push. My wife has also noticed that my mood appears to be lighter when I return from work.

I have had an issue with an infection with an existing root canal where Dr Amir had to cut my gums to file away the top of the root where he thought the infection was being caused, I must say he was brilliant in being available at very short notice to try to resolve the problem. He has also being very considerate and genuinely interested in my symptoms and other peoples symptoms suffering with chronic illnesses.

Ill continue with the treatment and provide updates on a monthly basis…

Darren

Do a search for Dr Amir, or Atlas balance - it will pull up a number of threads.

My wife has been seeing Dr Amir for two years now, with significant and sustained improvements in some, but not all areas of her "MS".

Two years on and with the benefit of hindsight would she start treatment again? Yes, unquestionably.

Do not consider TMJ treatment, jaw realignment, Aatlasbalance, or any other treatment aligned to skeletal realignment as some sort of "Cure" for MS.

When asked if Dr Amir's work is solving Emma's "MS" problem, the most appropriate answer I can provide is that realignment of Emma's jaw and upper vertebrae and addressing issues she's had with her TMJ has reduced and eradicated a number of symptoms that had historically been attributed to "MS".

This is very interesting.

I am in Ohio, USA, and am not able to see Dr. Amir. I, also, do not think I have a misaligned jaw. But, who knows??? I thought I read somewhere on this forum that he would be posting a way to upload xrays, etc. for his evaluation. Anyone know anything about that?? I can't find it now. I also recently found a list of chiropractors in Ohio that perform NUCCA. Anyone try that??

Thanks

What I've learned in the last two years following Emma's Treatment with Dr Amir is TMJ, jaw and other alignments can be so subtle that's it's difficult to provide anything visual that could be considered measurable.

Of course, if you've had an physical accident or have an obvious over or underbite there's clearly a chance that problem exists.

Whilst sat in Amir's waiting room I have spoken with a patient of his who had what would generally be considered perfect teeth and a "TV" smile. Yet they found they had alignment issues that Amir was able to treat.

What Dr Amir does, courts controversy, even in the world of dentistry Amir is considered somewhat alternative. He is wholly against extraction treatment of any kind if it can be avoided.

There is no prescribed set treatment for each patient. In Emma's case her body "tells" Amir if what he's doing is right or not, symptoms such as neuralgia, pins and needles, foot drop, gait imbalance etc etc improve or worsen (sometimes within hours or minutes) as adjustments are made to her appliances.

Of course, explaining the treatment in a manner such as this opens it up for all sort of claims and rebuttals. Amir (and me come to think of it) have taken a great deal of flak for publicly discussing his treatments openly, which becomes extremely tiresome and wearing. Especially when the flak comes from institutions and members of institutions that claim to be supporting MS sufferers.

Sadly, for those not able to visit Amir in London, he seems to be quite unique. Two years on and I understand why what he does would be difficult to teach to anyone else, never mind someone actually interested in doing it.

Here are some comments from a few of his patients. http://dramir.com/testimonials.php?t=18

Thanks, EJC :)

I've read a lot about Emma's tx. (Thanks for the updates, too!!:)
But, I can't get into that link above.....?..?......

Has anyone else heard anything about Darren's progress??

I just scheduled an apt for a NUCCA chiropractic consultation. Why not try, right?! It's noninvasive and I don't have to take a second mortgage out on the house.

Like I said before, I'm in the states so I can't see Dr. Amir. And this is very interesting stuff! Of course, I start thinking back to my first definitive MS symptoms. Half of body went somewhat numb. Mainly my face. Shortly before this, during a stressful period (college state board exam time), I was grinding my teeth so bad my bite became waaayyy off! Time for a biteguard! I could barely chew for days! But everything resolved itself eventually. This topic made me think of that time. (I know we can talk ourselves in to or out of believing anything, but that's kinda weird, huh.?.?)

I would still like Dr. Amir's opinion on my bite though. Ya never know.... I've only had minimal dental work done. I'm lucky in that aspect.......ME.....lucky.....go figure! haha And our teeth are always shifting. That same biteguard wouldn't even fit a few years after that.

If anyone knows if/how to submit xrays, etc. for his evaluation, please let me know.

:)

my wife has been going to one for a while now. $50 if he does an adjustment, $0 if he doesn't (adjustment is done about 75% of the time)

without fail, she limps into the doc's office holding my arm and using her cane.

she leaves the doc with me carrying her cane.

happens every time there is an adjustment. i wish i knew why.

i can see a clear improvement in strength and balance (as a result of strength???) as the adjustments are happening. very happy with this line of treatment and no plans to stop.

good luck with your appointment, please keep us updated

I've asked Amir to take a look at that Diane and see if there's a reason you can't see it.

Before we met Dr Amir, Emma had been seeing a chiropractor. Only for two or three visits, to help with lower back pain amongst other things.

Our first consultation with Amir brought the C1 and C2 vertebrae to our attention, something that at that point in time we were completely unaware.

Once we'd got home I called the Chiro and asked him what he was adjusting in Emma's neck each time we went and he explained it was the C1. At that point I asked him about TMJ, skeletal and jaw misalignment. He went quiet and then after a moment he explained he had no knowledge of this and how it would interact with what he was doing.

The rest is history, Emma saw Amir, her C1 (atlas) was realigned naturally once her TMJ issue had been addressed.

18 months later and Emma was undergoing rehabilitative physio in the same building as the chiro. The physio was explaining that the previous week a TMJ specialist had been in teaching all the chiros about the relationship between TMJ disorders and upper cervical misalignment.

It's reasonably likely that the NUCCA treatment will realign whatever is out of alignment. With some people that's all it needs. With others there may be another reason why something is out of alignment to start with. If you need to go back for weekly or bi weekly adjustments for the same problem, that's generally a good indicator that there is an unidentified cause for the misalignment occurring.

Hi,
Apologies for the lack of updates but I ceased the treatment around a year ago. I felt as though it wasn't improving my main disability/symptom which is lack of mobility/stiffness. As stated earlier, when I first started wearing the brace I felt that it seemed easier to move my legs when walking although not necessarily helping me walk further, this sort of plateaued out over the year or so of seeing Dr Amir and I decided that the cost of seeing Dr Amir wasn't worth it. Since removing the brace I dont think that anything has become noticeably worse, I reckon that if I was still wearing the brace my mobility would be the same as it is now without wearing it. One thing which I have noticed is that when wearing the brace your teeth move considerably but after a year or so of not wearing it they are back in the same place as they were before I started with the brace which begs the question if the alignment is only ever temporary.

Thanks for the feedback Darren. So sorry it didn't help you in the way I hoped it would. It obviously helps some and not others. Maybe Dr Amir is correct in thinking some peoples symptoms are down to misalignments which he can help with and others have MS. How do those people get sieved out? Maybe he is on the right track but missing some of the puzzle? Maybe once an MS patient reaches a certain stage the body cannot repair? It is a conundrum but I beleive if you don't try it you will never know if it works or not and you would regret not trying every avenue.
I wish you well in your search to better health.

I found a posting a while ago from Dr. Amir that said he had gotten great results for a number of symptoms, but he had little success with movement issues.

My only problem is that my left leg usually doesn’t work well. It started a few months after a mild case of whiplash. Now it 15 years later and I use a scooter when I leave my home.

Good luck,
