This Is MS Multiple Sclerosis Knowledge & Support Community

This post is to raise awareness about ICD-11, currently under development. The ICDs are documents made by the World Health Organization (United Nations) which are used by researchers, practicioners and insurance companies to classify and give a code to any known disease or disorder.

New version for ICD is 11, and it is currently under construction. A draft is available, with a lot of issues regarding MS. It is a wikipedia-like process and in theory, anybody can propose the inclusion of a disorder and its classification, though in fact, only organizations or internationally recognized profesionals are taken into account. The draft is here:

There are at least two problems with the current status of the ICD:

• First of all, CCSVI does not appear.Please CCSVI Alliance, help us all requesting officially the inclusion. (no need to mention the MS relationship in the request because some other connections like leukoaraiosis have been found: http://www.thisisms.com/forum/chronic-c ... 14138.html)
  
  Second, It seems that they have separate MS from other white matter disorders like Leukoencephalopathies, and they have introduced a clinical definition of the disease, including things like CIS as a separate presentation, and ignoring pathological findings like Lucchinetti patterns.

From my point of view this is an aberration. MS presence is independent of its clinical behaviour. The diagnosis problems should be treated separate from the classification of the disease. Maybe some people around here could contribute to situate MS in the place where it belongs (maybe neurodegenerative vascular disorders, or idiopathic leukoencephalopathies, being conservative)

I am nothing but a lowly anecdote. I do not in any way, shape, manner, or form believe, and I never will believe, that whatever I have has suddenly changed at any time into a different disease with a different pathology from whatever caused my C.I.S. in 1982 to the diagnosis of "MS" in 1997, to now. They can develop whatever they want. It doesn't mean anything to me.

I dunno what this is for, but I disagree with including "MS" in something which also has

Exclusions

endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases
congenital malformations, deformations and chromosomal abnormalities
complications of pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium
certain infectious and parasitic diseases
certain conditions originating in the perinatal period
neoplasms
symptoms, signs and abnormal clinical and laboratory findings, not elsewhere classified
injury, poisoning and certain other consequences of external causes

Have all of these somehow suddenly been ruled out? Maybe we can define "MS" by elimination!! Since we know it can't be any of these things, that only leaves what it is.

Where have you found the exclusions? I did not find them

Thanks. This ICD sucks from the beginning and every release is worst than the previous one. This time they are doing a great effort to achieve the worst ever.
