If my insurance declines, I'll be in the same boat as you - have too much money to qualify for help, have too many expenses to afford $50K or so. It appears that you are getting creative though. Keep working multiple angles. I bet you'll come up with the funds.

I've been reading your posts all over the board. What an incredible person you are. Your offer to help Michelle seems typical of you.

DaisyD - it is good to hear from you.

Right after surgery I noticed I was picking up my left leg/foot much better. After we went back for the two months checkup Dr. Dake prescribed PT, and I got lucky in that I got a therapist who cared. I walk much better now and hope to travel overseas next year. Would have never occurred to me to even plan on before.

The small subtle differences we experience, begin to accumulate - it is a great feeling, right? Isn't it wonderful to be able to plan something in the future?

I loved your story on your blog about having to make adaptations to your car and taking your driver's test again. It was true quality...and funny. I think you should submit it to the New Yorker (of course coming from Mass/Maine, you probably lovingly hate New York, like I do, but I like that mag's kinda writing).

One of my clients rides the train with me and I was telling him about the surgery. We got into a discussion about US insurance, the whoe stinky system. When I mentioned that it would probably cost me $85,000, he said, "Oh, that's doable. " I said, "maybe for you, but not for me." Anyway, he is in business with one of the most famous US "designers" (it's really a brand with the guys name on it). Between the two of them, they could pay for this.

this is really good to read, Michelle. Call, get things moving at Stanford and get your angels on board. You'll be kind enough to provide them with a nice tax deduction. "Doable" is a good word
