Hi everyone

I have been reading on another thread about symptoms being worse when sleeping longer or laying for a long time, I was wondering if anybody has the same problem as I do, During the night when I sleep on my belly I wake up and the numbness in my hands and fingers is 8 to 10 times worse than normal ( on a scale of 1 to 10 ) I wake up 2 or 3 times a night with this problem, I have to sit up or elevate my head and I can literally feel the blood draining back into my hands and fingers, after a couple minutes I get what feeling I still have back to normal and can go back to sleep, CCSVI?? My G.P tells me its bad circulation, Well after reading about CCSVI the last couple weeks it makes sense to me. Anyone else have similar problems?

P.S, I have an appointment at U.S.Cs M.S clinic in California and will be taking every piece of CCSVI literature I can download to make them aware ( if they are not already ) and to find out what there take on CCSVI is

Hi BamBAM,

Read the posts on the Inclined Bed Therapy thread(if you haven't already). This therapy may be of some help to you!

Hi Bam bam, I get the exact same problem, and when I am in a relapse the numbness of hands and arms is much worse.
I am sleeping on an inclined bed and even though that does help with circulation I still end up sleeping on my stomach so I have just bought myself one of the neck pillows to hopefully try and keep me in place!

Same subject, different experience.
(BTW my bed is 4 inches inclined)

When ik lay on my back and fold my hands on my belly, my finger fall asleep after 10/15 minutes, but only the pink and the finger next to it.

Robni, that is because the pinky and half the fiinger next to it, have their own nerve. See this link: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=a00069 there is an illustration of the (blue) area connected to the "pinky-nerve". The other fingers are fine, but the pinky is asleep.[/url]

Hi - I have had the numbness problem for a number of years. I just figured I had to live with it until CCSVI and reading about IBT. I now have a 4" incline at the head of my bed, and my numbness is virtually unseen all night and even upon waking. My hands feel great! I make sure to sleep with my arms downward, not up by head or across my stomach. It takes some practice to get comfortable enough to sleep this way, but I know that the benefits for me are worth the effort! Goodluck with finding some relief. I am so happy about this! :)

8-9 years ago both my hands started to go numb, not just at night but quite often all day. I went to a neurologist and he ran a nerve conduction test and diagnosed me with carpal tunnel syndrome. He recommended I wear braces when I sleep and maybe at other times as well. So I bought braces (they are not expensive) that keep my wrists straight all night and all these years later I have no numbness. This might help for your numb hands.

BTW, the same neuro who diagnosed my hands, well 3 years ago he diagnosed my MS too. Now he is my MS neurologist and is a great guy !!

lol, I thought I was the only one who has fingers and hands fall asleep just by resting them on my belly.

How many times have I told my neurologist this?? he says not ms related, exercise more to help your circulation.

I have noticed this too. I usually wake up at least once a night with numb fingers, hands, or most of an arm. I really have no sensory symptoms right now during the day (knock on wood). When I had my episode last spring, I always noticed that everything was much worse in the mornings and would ease a little during the day. I also find that if I am in bed for more than 8 hours or so I have a dull headache the following day and generally feel like I got no sleep. If I get about 6-7 hours of sleep without loitering in bed I generally feel pretty good and well rested. I have been informally testing this theory and so far it seems to hold. This would make sense if the jugulars aren't performing 100% as they carry most of the load while in a supline position.

check out Thoracic Outlet Syndrome ... numbed fingers and arms when sleeping may be attributable to this condition. Can be either veins or nerves being compressed.
