I posted my theory on this many months ago and now I see that it is being brought up in a few of the forums under CCSVI. Does anyone have vagus or accesory nerve irritation as a symptom of their MS?

Basically my theory included an irritation of the vagus nerve cause by CCSVI located high up near the jugualr formen and putting pressure on the nerve. irritation would cause a disruption to the heart, lungs, large intestine and diaphragm. Common symptoms include anxiety, acid reflux, shortness of breath, fluttering feeling in the chest, constipation, etc.

I have had ALL of these symptoms. Don't know anything about the vagus nerve, but would be anxious to learn.

The acid reflux, shortness of breath, and fluttering feeling in the chest are not "classic" symptoms of MS. Supposedly. MS specialist is not interested in hearing about these symptoms, because they are "not related to MS." Plus, these symptoms are so trivial, vague, and hard to prove. You end up sounding like a hypochondriac if you bother to mention them. There is much more serious symptoms to deal with. Maybe that is why they have been ignored as symptoms that MSers have.

yes indeed be careful what symptoms you give the docs they will think you nutty and ignore you. I always mentioned the cold feet hands sore neck and they gave me a vague oh it is autoimmune symptoms. Deffinately write the symptoms down though> Barbara

^^,^ agreed! Although i do not think this is a primary symptom of MS because it is not caused by a lesion on the nerve. In my mind, it is caused by compression of the nerve at the foreman

This is what i had and what i have now... What do you think of that?


1- otitis ( ear infections) in repetition in childhood
2- submandibular swollen gland all my life in the ledt side
3- alcool intolerance because my vagus nerve....makes me suffering and it is intolerable
4- optic neuritis in 1999 that took me all my vision from my right eye

Those... are really anatomically very near.... the intern jugular....

My vagas and accessory nerve problems have all come about FROM the stent placement as they banged it going through the foramen.

Ok, but i'm curious, dis you have any problemes before in this particualr area

None at all. Now I have always (since diagnosis) had problems with constipation, which as you know is influenced/contolled; not sure which, but the vagas nerve. However, my spinal accessory nerve was fine, never a problem. It got dinged pretty good, but I've got most of my range back. It's just that it's so easy to overdo it until the nerve heals as it has allowed my trapezius to basically just dissapear.
