I recently quit Avonex to move to Copaxone. My doctor said that I could just begin taking Copaxone right away. No weaning off period for Avonex and no break in between so I just stopped taking it. As always, it would be wise to ask your neurologist his opinion as well.jackiejay wrote:just wondering if it is advisable to quit cold turkey or is it better to slowly wean yourself off.....take every 2 weeks for a while then 3, etc. or does it matter, does anyone know?
Well I have already switched to Copaxone and have been taking it for approximately two and a half weeks. I could tell that I was progressing even though I would take my Avonex regularly (Note I have been on Avonex for three years and never thought it helped slow my disease). My legs were getting weaker and my fatigue had been getting worse. I met with my neurologist and let him know that I would like to switch to Copaxone as I had a feeling that Avonex was not working for me. He said he'd like to do a barrage of MRIs, which I agreed to. I haven't received the report on the MRIs yet, but I could see approximately 4-5 new enhancing lesions in my brain and one in my cervical spine. So, I guess the switch definitely was a good choice for me as it seems that my suspicions were correct.jackiejay wrote:if you don't mind my asking, why are you switching to copaxone?....
